Lunar pendant

These are crescent-shaped unassuming necklaces and other pieces of jewelery. They have become quite popular during the 8th century among the Zeribians who claim to descent from the refugees leaving Moons after the Great Eruption.

History

Lunar amulets have presumably been worn as protective amulets by the descendants for at least a century. First they were kept hidden, because of the persecution the refugees were facing. While the actual memories have been fading, the ancient city has gained mythological significance. Moons has begun to be viewed as a one of the great ancestral city states in the Zeribian history.   Lately the trauma of the Black years has finally began to be forgotten, and the descendants have began to take pride of their history. The pendants are now worn openly for the first time, and the descendants are finally declaring openly the heritage that the preceeding generations have been shamed for.   During the 800AH Zeribian Revolution of Der Fem some wealthy commoner families use the claim of a connection to the old noble houses from Moons to claim a noble status.

Significance

The lunar pendants symbolize the shared history of the refugees and the painful memories of immigration and persecution. During the revolution it also becomes the symbol of rebellion against the traditionalist nobility.

Related uses

The moon symbol also appears in the family emblem of the Great House Šiwke, in the form of a black crescent. Šiwke is one of the families that managed to use the rebellion to successfully become noble.   Different kinds of astronomically inspired pendants are very common on the West Island, given that the official state religion is the Sun Cult, who are generally opposed to graphical representations of the deities.

Raw materials & Components
The shape of the necklace is important, but the material can be anything available. The wealthy prefer precious metals such as gold, gold alloys like electrum, lapis lazuli and pearl. Cheaper options include bronze (a highly valuable material for the production of weapons but still pretty rare for Zeribians), stone, bone or even wood.
