Sasinfa Greyhair

Sasinfa Greyhair was a wise-woman and a Poet-singer who was lived in the second and first century BFS. She is best known for being the foster mother of Daursan and Kauteirin, the heroic twins, after their mother Hero Ásinnár left them in her care soon after their birth.

Personal history

Sasinfa was known to have been a great storyteller in her youth, and travelled wide to gather the stories of many heroes. Later she took residence the village where Hero Ásinnár grew up, as the wise woman. As she was old already, she was left behing when the giant Patella took the villagers as his slaves, and was thus able to inform Ásinnár of their fate.

Later when Ásinnár had become pregnant with Kauteirin and Daursan, she remembered the wise woman came to her house for giving birth, disguising herself as a poor peasant girl so that Sasinfa would not recognise her. Soon after the twins were born, she left the twins to be raised by Sasinfa.

She is credited for being the teacher of Kauteirin, the greatest of the poet-singers, who taught him all of the myths in her youth, and it is said that like Kauteirin, she also knew how to communicate with birds by singing. She is told to have been a worhipper of Astár the Healer.

Relationships

The myths describe her as a widow, and say she was left with no living child, but surviving stories tell nothing of her spouse or any children she might have had in the past.

Naming

Her name in Nem (Faren language), Sasinfa literally means 'grey-haired'. The myths don't preserve her personal name, or what name she went by in her youth.
