Eddie's Hideout

Eddie's hideout, or Eddie's Secret Sanctum—as he likes to call it—is little more than a basement with a few basic amenities. Still, it's a robust and well-protected domicile and proffered admirable sanctuary for its inhabitants.

A hidden underground passage connects the hideout to the Kyrup Palace a kilometre north.

Purpose / Function

Originally a medium-cost housing complex, it is now mostly abandoned. Only the basement is used as a safe house by Eddie. Set up as an off-grid shelter, its short distance and seclusion from Kyrup Palace make it a viable option as a panic room for the Queen.

Alterations

Most of the upper floors have been left abandoned. The basement, however, has been converted into a hideout. Isolated power systems and a clean water supply have also been installed. A long-distance ventilation system cycles the air away from the building and pumps fresh air in. The basement walls are reinforced with blast-resistant concrete and tungsten rods.

Architecture

Built in a modernist style reminiscent of late Halserian architects, its flat walls and rounded edges give the building a capsule-like look. Its original off-white wall has now been painted over a dozen times and is now a faded dirty blue. It has a flat roof with a small concrete gazebo atop.

Defenses

The walls are reinforced with steel bars for extra support. The exterior of the building has the appearance of an abandoned apartment complex to disguise it. All the entrances to the basement have both biometric locks and heavy deadbolts. All the doors are also reinforced with steel. Security cameras and motion sensors blanket the surrounding area and feed into a camera room in the bunker.

History

Built in 2438 during Halser Dynasty, it was one of several buildings commissioned by King Halser to house some of the city's displaced people. The building remained in use for the people until the fall of the Halser Dynasty. It stood abandoned for a few years until a large property conglomerate acquired it. Through several aquisitions and trades, the property fell into an ownership grey area.

In 2466, Eddie was attached to the Kyrup Palace Guard as a personal bodyguard for the newly-coronated Queen. He discovered the building and its lost ownership. Taking into account its history and location, he decided to convert it into a sanctuary/ panic-room for the Queen.
