Mahoona Canal

A canal separating Samarya and Mahoona, controlled mutually by the cities of Sooryapesh and Rakavidha.

History

Long ago, the continents of Samarya and Mahoona were connected. Accounts on how the canal was constructed vary significantly, but most date its completion in 1324. Rakavidhans claim Sooryans blasted through the land, which they considered sacred, without any consideration of their interests. Sooryans claim an agreement was made with the Rakavidhan government, and any dissenters were simply unaware of the talks.    In any case, once the canal was built, both Sooryapesh and Rakavidha claimed rights to its control. Many battles were fought along the canal for dominance. The most recent cease-fire was reached in 1597, just prior to the Ruin of the Sea. It allows both cities to tax passing ships from their respective continents as they see fit, with each city receiving an 18% cut of the others total collections, and both being responsible for maintenance. However, following the Ruin of the Sea, the canal has seen much less usage.
