WEEK ONE. THEME: CHANGE

ASSIGNMENT ONE / ONE

This is a new world so this is relatively simple, the kind of changes going on in this story are mainly personal and I want to emphasize how much that affects you. I might want to add a few big local world changes to contrast that and how even if you are the only one being affected personal changes can feel, and are, just as monumental.

PREPARE YOURSELF: SET YOUR GOAL

After considering the amount of thought Ive put into the concept and using the timed world building prompt test I am confident in my ability to complete the silver badge. I think this is a reasonable goal to go for keeping my very long hiatus in mind.

ASSIGNMENT TWO / ONE

^^^^Whoop there is is.^^^^

PREPARE YOUR WORLD: CATEGORIES AND TAGS

This is definitely something i need to work on but I'll be doing my best!

ASSIGNMENT THREE / ONE

For this as its a new world I don't have a ton to organize or refamiliarize myself with. What I did was take the basic categories and set them up then start a tag directory that I will immediately (I'm talking to you Magpie!) add all new tags to and their meaning.
See that here: TAGS MASTERPOST.

FOR THE OLDER WORLDS: UPDATE THE META

New world so I don't need to worry a huge amount about this one.

ASSIGNMENT FOUR / ONE

While I didn't need to update the meta I did need to start it. It's bare bones for now but it will grow alongside my world and story.

WEEK TWO. THEME: REFUGE

I love cats and music!

ASSIGNMENT ONE / TWO

With my world a mix of physical and emotional refuge will be needed. Physically characters will be under threat from groups that want to kill them for what they know or can do. Emotionally they will be experiencing the struggles that come with that, keeping secrets, and the normal stresses that come with being a human. Case in point a refuge in my setting that's relevant to the story could be a fortified safe house, or a tiny quiet creek in the woods or even a local store a character goes to relax.

PREPARE YOURSELF: FIND AN ACCOUNTABILITY BUDDY

It's dangerous to go alone, take friends!

ASSIGNMENT TWO /TWO

Got my RPG group, twitch writing community, Dazzlinkat, and my sister! <3<3<3<3<3

PREPARE YOUR WORLD: STYLING

Having access to all the great tutorials on WA makes things much easier ^w^.

ASSIGNMENT THREE / TWO

Styling was an interesting task if for no other reason then the world being so new. It was interesting to read the article on it and i will most likely make use of the customizable global navigation side panel at some point.

FOR THE OLDER WORLDS: ANY CSS UPGRADES?

I mean no but yes???

ASSIGNMENT FOUR / TWO

As a proud apprentice of CSS wizardry I took this on with gusto! Wrangling everything the way I wanted took some time and suffering but I am very happy with how it turned out. At some point it might get altered to be a bit more melancholy but I so pleased with how the beach-y theme came out I'm in no hurry. Special thanks to the css-help on the discord!

WEEK THREE. THEME: BELIEF

What if you die outside? Wait... Like the roof of the world? The atmosphere? Like that one Startrek episode?

ASSIGNMENT ONE / THREE

Beliefs can be a hard one, especially when you want to have many interesting characters. It is easy to fall into a trap of having them agree on everything big if they are on the same side. Another trap you want to avoid is posing questions you don't resolve. You need to resolve these questions just like you need to resolve any other plot point. Even if the answer is you don't have a definite one.   As for beliefs that would work well for this story: Respect for the dead, working with the natural world, and Owning up to your choices are good broad ideas I want to touch on. More specifically religion in the area the story is set in has over arching elements but is also very strong with the idea of local spirits.

PREPARE YOURSELF: FIND YOUR INSPIRATIONS IRL

For some reason it took me ages to start this leg of the prep work journey, maybe because I was worried about the sheer amount of them to speak of!

ASSIGNMENT TWO / THREE

I made a separate article to post all the various inspirational works I come across and love. Insperation directory for Sand Castles

PREPARE YOUR WORLD: IMAGES AND MAPS

What do you call a writing utensil that can only write about what things are not? Awnser
An ain't brush.

ASSIGNMENT THREE / THREE

This was hard to figure out how to show. Thankfully I don't need a public map quite yet and am perfectly fine leaving off on that until after summer camp and my world is a little more stable.
For inspirational art I really want to have links to every modern artist's website so I'll be doing that as I go in my inspirations article from assignment two / three.

FOR THE OLDER WORLDS: REVIEW YOUR INSPIRATIONS

This is the first section that was not relevant to my world as in earlier assignments for older worlds there was still some work I felt like discussing for that section. But here there is simply nothing to review yet.

WEEK FOUR. THEME: DECAY

Thinking of something quirky to say it simply occurred to me that many creatures associated with rot do much to remove it such as vultures and mushrooms. Isn't that rather amusing?

ASSIGNMENT ONE / FOUR

Physical and moral decay will definitely have a role in sand castles. The main character herself is a sort of reaper in training one of her main duties being to make sure the dead are laid to rest. Moral decay will be strongly showcased in the antagonists who regardless or perhaps despite their backgrounds choose actively to pursue goals harmful to others and even themselves in some cases. I am considering how I feel about the literary relationship between physical decay and moral decay, I think it could be an interesting topic. Is personal or social decay the same concept as the decay of physical objects? Should they be treated the same?

PREPARE YOURSELF: OPTIMIZE YOUR WRITING ENVIRONMENT

I got myself a scented candle! :D

ASSIGNMENT TWO / FOUR

This was an interesting task to tackle and unfortunately I feel it may end up being somewhat ongoing as I moved somewhat recently. Regardless I am working on tidying my space and getting used to going into work mode at my desk daily. Will be considering what I want to stock on food wise and meal planning a bit farther ahead for a bit as well so that isn't taking up my mental energy. The earlier inspirations tasks earlier this month also helped as I use ambient and soundtrack music with no words to drown out excess noise and set the tone to help my focus.

PREPARE YOUR WORLD: REVIEW YOUR HOMEPAGE

My worlds elevator pitch... Get a reader hooked in the time it takes them to read something during their lunch break.

ASSIGNMENT THREE / FOUR

This was fun to go back and polish everything ironically I am writing this before adding the featured articles because I know I am more likely to procrastinate on this part.

FOR THE OLDER WORLDS: UPDATE YOUR INTRO AND AUTHOR PAGE

This was a bit interesting I am going to have to get myself a new banner for sure but I cleaned it up a bit which is nice.

ASSIGNMENT FOUR / FOUR

Well its a new world so my pillar articles dont exist properly yet but I'll be working on that soon with summer camp coming!

...THE END OF THE BEGINNING

Wow, I'm proud of myself for finishing this. Honestly making myself come and type all this up was the hardest part and it might show a bit. With all this work though I am all warmed up for summer camp and ready to go worldbuild!!!
