37 - A Price for the Prince
General Summary
The session begins with Calenor wandering the streets of Solis after his efforts in the preliminaries. He hears a whisper from a nearby alleyway - a voice beckons him to approach. An elven fellow dressed in dark green garb from his homeland in Myrkhal says he's been looking for Calenor, and saw him for the first time in the Solis Colosseum.
Calenor is ambushed by two elves, both donning his country's military uniforms. He is able to dispose of them both, with some minor assistance of a third arrival. An elven woman also wearing verdant garments provides Calenor healing magic. The woman, introducing herself as Jori, tells Calenor that a number of mercenaries have been sent to claim a bounty on his head. Back in the kingdom of Myrkhal, Calenor's father has apparently fallen deathly ill, and "Calenor" himself has ascended to the throne as the new ruling king. This impostor of sorts has hired his own private army of mercenaries outside of the kingdom's military, and about thirty of them have been sent out to kill the true prince of Myrkhal Calenor.
Jori was sent my Calenor's mother, Calessia, offering his mother's double-bladed weapon as proof of her allegiance. Calenor and Jori travel northwards of Solis towards the mountains, where Jori shows him an encampment of over three hundred orcs, clearly readying an assault upon the city of Solis. He sneaks into a tent with the insignia of his kingdom and confronts three more mercenaries. Calenor convinces them to work for him, that they may be rewarded rather than killed. The leader of the mercenary troupe, Navis, agrees, loyal to coin alone. Calenor rides with the mercenaries and the caravan of orcs towards the city for the fateful assault.
Back in the colosseum, the party (Celder, Edalweiss, Kayin and Finn) exit the arena to witness a massive clash of Solosi soldiers against armed orcs, a hundred on each side. Plumes of smoke can be seen in the distance; one towards the palace, another at the library, and one more within the market plaza. Kayin leaves towards the plaza, while the others move towards the palace - Celder runs back to the Wintry Wyvern to retrieve his pet dragon, and quickly makes his way back.
Calenor and the company of elves catch up to Edalweiss and Finn as they crest upon the palace walls, where six massive orcs are disposing of the Solosi guards. The orcs are close to ten feet tall each, with unnaturally large muscles and pulsing purple veins. The party manages to bring down four of them as the palace doors come crashing down, and the final two rush in.
In pursuit, the party finds the two orcs locked in combat with the Governess Harendial, adorned in armor and brandishing a flaming sword. Although Finn, Edalweiss and the governess sustain many heavy blows, falling in and out of consciousness, with the help of Calenor and his company they are able to finish off the last of the threats.
All of the guards stationed at the palace walls were killed in combat, as well as one of Calenor's mercenaries. Edalweiss tells the governess that this is the work of Kymos - that he is responsible for the burnings of Wozlathe and Perritown as well, and of his talents of stealing the magic of others. The governess says he may have been blessed by one of the Eternals, as she was.
The Eternals, she continued, were the gods of this plane that have since left, but continue to influence the world through those they choose as their representatives. Governess Harendial was blessed by the phoenix deity Amarasi, while Kymos' gifts resemble that of Bloodbane.
The party leaves towards the plaza to regroup with Kayin. At the plaza, Kayin makes his best efforts to distract one of the two cyclopes rampaging through the market stalls. After a brief chase, the cry of a dragon could be heard in the air, and a layer of frost is fired within the plaza, inhibiting one cyclops. Kymos, with his dragon, quickly dispose of the two hulking threats. He exchanges words with Kayin confidently before leaving towards the library, as Kayin proceeds to provide aid to those injured around the plaza.
The party fully meets once more. Upon hearing Kymos' actions, they decide to return to the palace grounds, expecting Kymos to arrive after he had finished in the library.
