"Arduia is a prosperous, multi-generational, Human dominated democracy sharing a continent with Estrye, lying on the southern half. Geographically expansive, Arduia relies heavily on the state system it has pioneered in the world of Sanial to address the challenges on government such a large geographic area presents. The state system is fundamental in how Arduia has functioned well for hundreds of years, since the many individual states can meet the varying needs of the regions they govern. Arduia’s national government came into being after several of the individual states, then just local domains, formed a union to face mounting military, economic, cultural, and religious attacks from larger neighbors. The successful repeal of foreign encroachment caused other regions in the area to organize and petition for membership. Due to the fast incorporation of the many member states, new “noble” house sprung up – with popular locals elevated by their peers to serve as their region’s noble representative. Beholden to the local interests, and faced with a threat of defunding, these representatives ultimately found it beneficial to purse locally informed agendas. However, over time this dependence has waned, and representatives have become increasing interested in dynastic legacies. This combined with strife between varying States has weakened Arduia considerably. The federal government yet manages to function by primarily focusing on foreign diplomacy and setting national mandates, leaving the individual states to implement them."
