Strange Vision - Second Vision in Lima
Boris finds himself walking in the mountains. Around a ruined wall. All the finished surfaces in sight adorned with strange carvings of faces. A ziggurat comes into view past the wall. It's surface going in and out of focus. No. No, not focus. The surface is moving. Shifting. Squirming. Writhing. Maggots. The entire building is covered in maggots...
...wandering in the sunshine. The landscape appears alien. Everything is red. The ground. The rocks on the ground. The large plinths of stone just ahead. Even the sky is shaded red. Approaching the rocky outcropping you reach out a hand for balance, feeling a reassuring warmth from the stone surface. Gazing between the rocks reveals a dark void. A wound offering descent into the earth...
...and with a flourish the dove vanishes. But before you can deliver your next line a voice calls out from the audience, "The bird's in his jacket pocket." Snickers from the crowd. You move on to the ring trick. "The middle one has a hidden latch." The laughter increases. That voice. You remove your top hat. "A rabbit's hidden under a false bottom." Raucous laughter. Houdini! Striding forward to confront the charlatan, you collide with nothing. A wall of glass? Water covers your feet. There are glass walls on all sides. Now the water rises past your knees. A sheet of glass above your head tops off the walls. Water rushing past your waist. You are trapped in a glass box. There is a knocking on the glass. You turn and see Houdini's smiling face. His grin too wide. "The show must go on," he informs you. Wild applause from the crowd. Water covers your head...
...You look up. Struggling out of the water. Toward the sun. But the sun is swallowed by darkness. Black tentacles reach down to consume the earth. And push you down. Down into the ocean...
