Katalina Mendoza

Biography

Born in 1661 in Havana, Cuba under the rule of Spain - Katalina lived her life as a privateer of the Spanish crown until she was captured and hung for piracy in 1692 in Port Royale, Jamaica. However its apparent she indeed survived her sentencing by becoming a vampire… however that is accomplished.
She’s an avid metalhead and hard punker who is often found at her club the Asylum or prowling the streets of Santa Monica and the darkened boardwalk of Venice Beach at night. Not much is known about her, but there’s certainly a charm about her… She has shown thus far to be very physically strong, almost too strong.
Kat commands a small empire of ghouls and thin blood vampires and operates as a self-appointed Autarkis, not swearing allegiance to any of the major Sects in the city. She calls her operation the Haven of Santa Monica - identified by the grafittied Route 66 sign on display at the Santa Monica Pier. She hates the Camarilla though plays nice with them out of pragmatism and agrees with their general view of maintaining one’s humanity and upholding the Masquerade. She is affiliated loosely with the Anarch movement but isn’t beholden to them generally. While she once marched with them as a member, now she is more or less a friend of the sect at large and does help out on occasion - usually coerced by her Sire, Jack. She hates the Sabbat and frequently tries to sabotage their movements in the city. The Giovanni and by extension the Russian Mafia is one of her biggest problems, due to some events that happened twenty or so years ago. She is targeted by the Catholic church but has not been confronted in nearly ten years.
Katalina is one of the most disruptive Kindred in all of Los Angeles. Because of her, the balance of power favors the Camarilla and the Anarchs as she abhors the Sabbat and Kuei Jin and frequently helps out either sect planning a raid against them. She runs the show in Santa Monica, protecting her flock of thin bloods ruthlessly and enacting tariffs on Camarilla activity in the region. Despite her very small network of influence, no one really wants to challenge her as her true strength revealed itself when she nearly killed Prince Strauss in 2004. Though individually weak, her small army of loyal thin bloods help defend her territory. The Camarilla and the Anarchs both want her as permanent allies, and she wants to build up on her own.
Despite her historic hatred of the Sabbat, they have begun to send envoys to her on occasion to cozy up to her with some marginal success. Since 2018, Katalina's operations against the Sabbat have mostly stopped. Her more recent focus has been consolidating power and preparing for what she believes to be the inevitable attempt by Amadeus Backhauser to retake Santa Monica and out her.
