Maredeth (MAR EH DEATH)

the storm-maiden, the untamed, stormrider, wyrmbreaker

Maredeth is the wild goddess storms, disasters, and destruction. She is sort of divinity that one prays to never draw the attention of, out of fear and the hope to avoid her capricious anger; although some of her faithful seek to embody that destructive energy that she harnesses with ease. Often considered an aloof goddess, there are some texts that paint her role as the jailor of the elemental forces of primal Sanzeia (chiefly attributed to her being attended by two great elemental beasts).  Her tasks that keep her attention away from her mortal followers, and most of them are perfectly content with that.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Most often a storm-cloud or lighting bolt, though many small sects exist honoring the storm goddess and may use any form of natural/disaster imagery.

Tenets of Faith

Cults of Maredeth are many but often quite small.  They tend to crop up wherever the elements are fiercest and espouse a philosophy of endurance, stoicism, and powers both protective and destructive.

Holidays

Maredeth presides over the eighth month of the Dywd, Silar, the month of storms. It is a time to pray for safety and good weather.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Technically she is wedded to Hedir the god of crafts, but there are a telling lack of tales indicating a romantic or physical relationship. Instead Maredeth has taken as her consorts the twin gods of lightening and thunder, Brodik and Grothir, respectively.   She is attended on her throne by two great elemental wyrms, Ghudek and Shinbayak, the ancestors of modern dragons, that she personally bested during the taming of Sanzeia.
