Ribboned Wyvern

The ribboned wyvern is a subspecies of paradise wyvern that is regularly kept as a pet. It gets its name from the long, ribbon-like adornments on the tips of the wings and the top of the head.

Anatomy

Ribbons wyverns are easily small enough to perch on a finger. Their dewlap is small compared to other paradise wyverns. They use the long, ribbon-like adornments on the tips of their wings and on their heads to attract potential mates. Their ribbons and tail more than double their body length.

Because of the ribbons, these wyverns (especially males) are clumsy flyers. They prefer to glide instead of flap. Certain domesticated morphs that have been bred for ribbon length are especially terrible flyers.

Coloration & Morphs

Wild ribboned wyverns are primarily pink or purple, with yellow, red, green, black, and white patterns. Their dewlap and the undersides of their wings are yellow. The backside of their wings have eyespots of black and white with a ting of red. Their tails have ringed stripes of yellow, green, and white. Their ribbons are also yellow green and white. The tips of their ribbons and tails are black. Their eyes are yellowy orange.

Popular Morphs

Sunset

The sunset morph lacks a lot of the green and purple pigmentation of the standard morph, giving the wyvern much warmer toned scales. There is more yellow patterning, and it is slightly more orange than the standard morph.

Midnight/Melanistic

Midnight morphs lack white and yellow pigments and have much more black. They may even have a faint blue sheen to their scales. Their pink pigments remain, and are very vibrant against the dark background.

Albino

Albino morphs are white or very very pale pink. Any black is replaced with reddish orange. The green pigments become more yellow, and the yellow pigments are very vibrant.

Daybreak

All of the pigments are much paler, and most black and green pigments are gone. The result is a pale pastel pink, white, and yellow. Daybreak morphs are also sometimes called "sunrise" morphs.
