Archipelago Maritime Shipyards
Archipelago Maritime Shipyards (AMS) are the most advanced shipyard in The Archipelago and arguably in Sarkt. They operate under a special regime directly supervised by the Islelandian joint government. Archipelago Maritime Shipyards' headquarters and the primary shipyard are located on The White isle, but they have additional production facilities spread across the entire Archipelago. They manufactured many of the most famous and infamous ships throughout history.
Archipelago Maritime Shipyards often produce ships in large batches and then sell them to any interested buyer. These vessels serve ordinary clients such as merchants, traders and cargo fleets well but cannot impress with anything extraordinary. They are cheap to buy and maintain, very similar to each other and therefore easy to operate and repair. However, the continuous work of R&DD offers options for modernisation and improvement for already built ships. They, of course, have their price and are not included in the sale deal.
The standard ships are the core of AMS business but usually are too common and ordinary. Some clients need or want much more special, uncommon or specialised vessels, and the AMS are more than happy to answer the call. Their Customer service department would assist with everything for the right price. The wealthiest and most special clients can enjoy the special treatment of the Premium Care subdivision. However, such an honour is reserved to a very few individuals.
AMS maintains two clusters of data - a public library and a private Archive. The library holds a massive collection of marine-oriented topics such as shipbuilding, sailing, naval combats and tactics, sea and ocean science, etc. It is open to the public with free access for everyone. The library is still under the formal jurisdiction and rule of the AMS, but it is considered part of The Archipelago Grand Library and, in practice, is effectively under its management.
AMS Archive, on the other hand, is private and strictly confidential. Its existence is well-known, but its location is shrouded in mystery and secrets. The Archive holds detailed data for every customer, order, purchase, contract and design AMS ever had. In practice, this means data for almost every ship, shipowner, merchant and captain in The Archipelago for the past few hundred years. Rumours say the Archive also contains stolen technologies, data from secrets, and industrial espionage. However, no one ever confirmed the exact nature of stored information.
