History
Sternham was founded sometime around 9600 EE, by Dwarves prospecting for coal to fuel Kazaram's growing industry. It didn't grow to over a thousand Dwarves until just before the Great Magic War, around 9990 EE. It was annexed by King Marothsa (2) as part of the Human-Dwarven Alliance (194 HE), which set borders for human and Dwarven territories by the elevation of land, separating the Durnhalla mountains for Dwarven territory. Sternham is approx. 20 ft. below the 'Dwarven line'. Sternham's government was not fully reconstructed until 201 HE, when the first human mayor of Sternham was declared a duke, and moved his authority to capitol. During the Great War, most of the Dwarves for Prince Earlton's army came from Sternham, loyal to Saramoth after generation of life under its rule. During the war, King Marothsa (13) laid siege to Sternham, almost defeating the city. He ambushed and slaughtered the Dwarven armies as they returned to defend their city, after prince Earlton's death. Sternham lost approx. 20% of its Dwarven population, mostly working-age males.
