The Peak

This gently sloping mountain is a landmark feature of the Basin. Made up primarily of salt stone, it provides water for the entire Basin and is thus revered as a wellspring of life. Due to the high salt content of the stone the water flows over, however. The myriad of marshlands surrounding the mountain filter the water into a salt-free state which pool at the lakes that dot the Basin. It is said that the god Sov, God of the Sun makes his home atop the mountain, in a cave found at the end of the trail leading up from the Gathering Site.

Purpose / Function

Talin Peak is home to the cave in which Sov lives. Inside this cave is a small pool of pure water, and several niches that are all empty except for one. In the filled niche there is a soft orange glow emanating from a small shard of crystal, Sov's physical connection to the world. In the pool rested Abek, Sov's physical manifestation, who is able to move beyond the cave and influence the world more directly.

Architecture

The mountain is primarily comprised of rock liberally speckled with pink salt-stone crystals, and slopes gently upwards, making it very easy to scale.

History

This mountain is a holy site to present-day humans, though the existence of the ship itself is totally unknown. The onboard AI, Sovabekine (SOV) is present and functional, acting as a “god” to the present-day humans of Satheal. It will speak to those who enter the center chamber, which used to be the bridge of the ship. SOV can communicate with a few particular individuals outside of the chamber if they have at least one functioning splice in their genetic structure. There were other present on the ship, however during the seeding process they were scattered across the Basin through unknown means, possibly Mire intervention.   When the ship crash-landed on Satheal, it broke open a gargantuan wellspring of saltwater, which is connected to an underground river leading out to the oceans beyond the Rim. Opening the spring caused the water to rush outward and and run from the top of the mountain down to the surrounding area. The high salinity of the water makes it undrinkable, and as a result the majority of life surrounding the crash-site was gradually killed off, making the grounds on and around the mountain barren. As the water continued to flow out of the reservoir, it brought up sediment and other minerals and encased the ship over thousands of years. It also began to pool into what is now several saltwater marshes which filter the salty water as it passes through and feeds freshwater to the various lakes scattered around the area.
