S02E38. A Legacy Report
General Summary
After Phandalin townsfolk celebrated the heroes' victory and spoke the stories of their honored dead during Moonfest, the heroes lifted their own cups to those of their own number who were no longer with them.
The next morning a messenger arrived with a missive from Lord Protector of Neverwinter, Dagult Neverember.
It reads:
The heroes wrap up business in Phandalin and head up to the Triboar Trail to head west to the coast. They planned to stop at a fairly newly constructed Inn at the crossroads with the Triboar and High Roads. It is called the Wayside Inn.
Not too much earlier in the day two other travelers stopped at said Inn and made themselves ready for a meal and some drink while listening to a minstrel finger a tune. Sometime after dark, loud bangs were heard, alarming all within the Inn. At coincidentally the same time, our Phandlan Phavorites were approaching the same Inn and spied several humanoids laying siege to the building. As they charged in to help they discovered quickly that these beings were undead zombies and wraiths! Inside the patrons also learned the same as a wraith came through the wall and attacked the minstrel.
The fight the followed was fast and furious. The poor minstrel was the only real fatality, his spirit being also brought forth as undead under the wraith's behest.
Now "combat acquaintances" our heroes are left in the aftermath with other survivors to puzzle through the reason for this attack, if there is any.
The next morning a messenger arrived with a missive from Lord Protector of Neverwinter, Dagult Neverember.
It reads:
To Sir Nesbit, Kanenas and the thusfar unnamed band of adventurers of Phandalin.
It is my assumption that you have remedied the difficulty of the white dragon that has recently troubled the region and are currently available for your next challenge. I am quite sure my confidence in your abilities in that matter has not been misplaced. Therefore, your presence is needed in Leilon, a small town of particular strategic importance to the trade between Neverwinter and Waterdeep. A vital waypoint of trade, the town has repeatedly fallen upon poor times and once again requires aid while it rebuilds.
It is imperative that you make way for Leilon at your next convenience. You will have my gratitude as you provide services and support to the town where needed.
Many Regards,
Lord Protector of Neverwinter, Lord Dagult Neverember (sealed and marked)

The current owner of the Wayside Inn is Martisha Vinetalker, a striking half-elf whose pleasing features contrast with her tough demeanor.

The cook is Cooragh Struckt, a half-orc who is famous for her incredibly tasty, and alarmingly well-spiced, stews and meat pies.
