S04E07 - Divine Contention Report

General Summary

In episode S04E07 of our D&D campaign, "The Adventures of the Stormbreakers," the party embarks on a mission to Neverwinter to request additional military support from Lord Dagult Neverember to defend Leilon from potential invasions by two cult factions. These factions, particularly the Cult of Talos, pose a significant threat to the region. During their journey, they bring with them the powerful but unpredictable Noman Guard Grenade, a devastating weapon with random effects due to its gnome craftsmanship.
Upon arriving in Leilon, the party discovers that the new Temple of Kossuth is ablaze, serving as a beacon visible from miles away. This development is expected to attract pilgrims and possibly new converts, thanks to the efforts of Firestick and his builders. The party meets with the Town Council, explaining their mission and the acquisition of the grenade. They are given the responsibility to use the grenade against a dragon if it appears, as no one else dares to get close enough to deploy it.
The party then boards the ship "Icingdeath," choosing it over "Twinkle," and makes a swift journey to Neverwinter, arriving in the afternoon. They are accompanied by the captains who intend to plead for keeping the high road secure due to the cults' potential control over it. This is vital for commerce, as both land and sea routes are already dangerous.
In Neverwinter, the party experiences a magical illusion in a hall of mirrors, simulating an explosion with shattering mirrors and falling chandeliers, but they emerge unscathed as it resets. They are then escorted to meet Lord Neverember. Each member of the Stormbreakers presents their case, emphasizing the increasing threats, the need for more soldiers, and the strategic importance of Leilon. Zith reveals the existence of the Ruinstone, a powerful artifact that could be catastrophic if it falls into the wrong hands, urging Lord Neverember to protect Leilon.
After their meeting, the party boards their ships to return to Leilon. During their voyage, they encounter a severe storm, which damages the ship significantly. As dawn breaks, they find themselves facing two enemy ships, the "Throatcutter" and "Thunderstrike," from the rival house Ship Rethnor of Luskan. The Stormbreakers prepare for a ship-to-ship battle, manning the ballistae as they brace for the confrontation. The episode concludes with the party readying for this imminent naval clash.
