S04E08 - Divine Contention Report

General Summary

On May 21st, the "Saviors of the Sword Coast" resumed their adventure. The party, known as the StormBreakers, found themselves sailing back from a hopeful audience with Lord Dagult Neverember, aiming to secure troops for Leilon. However, they were caught in a violent storm that damaged their ships which sustained 55 points of damage each.
Once the storm passed, the crew was alerted to an incoming threat. Battle stations were called, and the party prepared the ship's defenses. Six ballistae emerged from the deck, and colorful sunshades were spread, creating a dimly lit area. Also a powerful antimagic field came up around the ships, with Twinkle at the center. This revealed the true identities of the crew members as drow, including the captain, who explained the necessity of their disguises.
Naval combat ensued between Icingdeath and Twinkle, and the enemy ships, Thunderstrike and Throatcutter. The party's ship, equipped with eight ballistae, engaged in a fierce exchange of fire with the enemy vessels. The anti-magic field posed a significant challenge, for both sides, disabling magical attacks and defenses.
Despite this, the party managed to inflict substantial damage on the enemy ships. Throatcutter's sails were targeted and eventually destroyed, immobilizing it. Thunderstrike, on the other hand, advanced to ram Icingdeath, with the crew preparing for boarding.
As the session concluded, the stage was set for a climactic boarding battle. The party had to decide whether to board the enemy ship or prepare to defend their own. The anti-magic field remained a critical factor, forcing the party to rely on mundane weaponry and tactics.
Next session, the battle will shift to close-quarters combat, with boarding parties from both sides clashing. The outcome will depend on the party's strategic decisions and combat prowess in a magic-free environment.
