Immunity

The Immunity gene was a genetic mutation that occured among the Pèokáme population and was discovered around the year 800. In the beginning, not many people knew about it or believed that it was real. The people affected by the mutation could not reproduce with people that did not possess the gene and were therefore slowly typecast for it. Additionally, a panic spread out of fear of the mutation, as people believed the whole Pèokáme society would die out eventually from it.   It was generally considered rather uncommon though, until a method of diagnosis was discovered by the Clándhia and more and more people were diagnosed to have the immunity gene. With the research, it was also discovered what the gene was actually affecting in the body. Up to that point, the gene was only believed to be linked with infertility. The people affected by the mutation were able to not only hold the powers and abilities of either the Vampires or the Werewolves, but instead both at the same time. Their blood did not change completely upon turning, therefore the name "immunity", because they were immune to a full transition. Additionally, they had a generally stronger body and lived as long as the Clándhia - double the human life time.    Upon finding out so much about new genetic mutation, the people that had it became known as the Dáotára - the people in between. The condition could not be healed but also not transmitted onto other people. The mutation simply seemed to occur randomly at birth.  The Dáotára were shunned from the society and formed their own groups. The mutation was passed on from generation to generation, until today, where the Dáotára are their own independent people, with an important influence on a global level. To this day, some children among the Pèokáme society are still born with the mutation, though it has become rather rare.
