Mildred McGrath

Is the wife of Emmett McGrath. They have moved from Boston to New Orleans. Mildred, originally from Chicago has left her family behind although they are still close and regularly communicate by post. Her history has a lot to do with her cold closed-off manner. She has friends back home, but she also has her reasons for not talking to them. The closest of them are in communication with her family, and she sends short missives which are hand-delivered, but most of the time, for the safety of all parties, nothing is delivered in writing.
She is quite fond of her niece and nephew, the latter was not yet born when she left home, and she has had little interaction with the child, though her brother, Matthew, writes of the child often.
She frequents The Swain Club with her husband and their good friend Amos Pomroy where she is often seen on his arm. Although there are some whisperings about their relationship, as the trio are always seen together the remarks are usually limited to the strangeness of them all being so close rather than the insinuation of any real impropriety.
