Jayme Dawson and the Christian

One of the classic ghost ship stories is that of Jayme Dawson's ship the TMS Christian. The ship was a patrol cruiser in Terastont System in the early part of the Silence. Dawson took his duties very seriously, and even after the collapse of Hasim was obviously inevitable, he dutifully protected civilians from predatory rogues.
The Christian on patrol in Sector 7   On the fateful day of her disappearance, the Christian was on patrol in orbit of the system's ringed gas giant when she was caught in an ambush. Various retellings disagree on the exact nature of the opposition, but at least three light cruisers took her by surprise. By the numbers, the fight should have been one-sided, but long-distance observers of the battle said that Captain Dawson fought like a demon, and no weapon could touch the Christian.   Eventually, however, one of the attackers landed a hit, and the patrol cruiser went up in a bright burst of light and radiation that scrambled every ship's sensors. No one survived the battle, but a few shreds of video records showed the three light cruisers were cut to ribbons, and there was no trace of the Christian or her crew, not even debris. In subsequent years, while operable starships still existed in Terastont, there have been multiple reports of civilian ships being ambushed by pirates, but then sensors were scrambled by an unknown source and the Christian showed up to repel the attackers. When the tide of the battle turned, the mysterious ship faded from physical existence, with the last visible trace of the vessel being the bones of its crew manning their stations.   Each instance of ship sensor failure was easily explained by physical conditions, but the timing of each case and the testimony of the crews gave rise to the legend of Jayme Dawson's Christian.
