Bizou

A small military unit maintained by House Guanting to fight against magical threats. In addition to being trained and equipped for this task, many of them are specially bred to be magic resistent thanks to research from the Dian.

History

Historical documents from the time period are nearly non-existent, but sometime after H60 the Dian began researching ways to create soldiers more resistant to magic than normal Li Qu. Through a combination of selective breeding, drugs, medicines, and, by some accounts, magical rituals, such soldiers began showing promise. They were dubbed the Bizou.
In the generations that followed their number was expanded, but never substantially. It’s not difficult to find willing candidates, as membership affords a rather comfortable class of living, but it is difficult to find eligible candidates. Still, they did grow slowly. They continued to benefit from the results of research carried out by the Dian, and were often given special weapons, armor, and artifacts to use in the hunt for and extermination of magic. In a broader sense they also became the limited military might of the House Guanting, who had to ensure they remained in a position of power equal to or above House Gengxin who controlled the Council of Cultural Norms and the Imperial Order.
The Bizou now accompany Imperial Order members on raids against suspected magic users throughout the Jade Empire, but are still concentrated most heavily within the Shengtai.
