Kitsune

Physical Description

Kitsune have two forms, a fox form and a humanoid form. A kitsune’s humanoid form is very beautiful, most often taking the appearance of a human or elf. They are similar in size and proportions to those races, but trend toward the smaller side. Short kitsune stand just under 5 feet, while tall Kitsune can almost reach 6. They have varied hair colors, but light colors such as white, light gray, reddish brown, and golden brown are most common. Darker colors like dark gray and black are not unheard of. Eye colors vary a lot, but the most common are blue, green, and brown. Less common colors include orange, purple, yellow, and very rarely red. The humanoid form is unique to each kitsune, and that kitsune cannot alter the appearance of their humanoid form.   In fox form kitsune are often difficult to distinguish from a common fox. Their fur takes on the same color as their hair in humanoid form, but it’s common to have darker patches near their paws and lighter patches on their bellies and faces. A kitsune is born with a single tail, but often grows more as their affinity for magic increases

Society

Kitsune live in interdependent tribes. Within a region there are likely to be scattered tribes that each have their own leaders, but they will almost always respect one such tribe above all others. It’s not unusual to live isolated from those other tribes, sometimes for decades at a time, but if the head tribe has need to call upon the other tribes they will certainly heed the call.

Relations With Others

Among all of the yokai, none are able to impersonate humanoid races as perfectly as the Kitsune. Although it is not very common, Kitsune have even been known to disguise themselves and go live among settlements of humans or elves for extended periods of time. They are the races the Kitsune are most likely to get along with and the other yokai will frequently defer to the Kitsune when it comes to matters dealing with those races.   Among the yokai in Nobumori, this has earned the Kitsune an elevated status as the need to relate and interact with the Humans in Shudan and the Jade Empire has steadily grown.

Naming Conventions

The traditional language of the Kitsune is Sylvan, but the language is rarely if ever written in practice. As they began encountering other civilizations and discovered the habbit of recording names, they began to adopt names from the languages spoken by those civilizations instead.   For the Kitsune in Tasinem, this meant adopting names from the humans that inhabited the lands that would later become Shudan using the language that would later develop into Shudani. As such, their names are similar to many that could be found throughout Shudan.
Male: Boru, Hozuko, Mutaro, Senkei
