Session 3: A New Companion

General Summary

Thursday, December 29, 2022

Theo read the letter which turned out to be from their good bud Varlog, who encouraged them to come and visit his place sometime in the city of Ceres, and enclosed a friendship bracelet. After a rather awkward breakfast with Mama Rosehip and learning about her past with Blaze you left the group of refugees with advice to get out and hurry away from Siris to get to a safer place. While on the road you encountered Esoti—the moth person who offered you to test your luck with the Deck of Many Things and didn’t seem to care one way or another how your fates fared. Theo found a new—but rather forgetful—companion named Joan Theobauld who feels some premonition that she must serve them but the reasoning is lost on everyone. He also walked away with a new keep between the rivers of Sabrandom but it is currently occupied by some inhospitable houseguests. After seeing Fen lose all of their wealth, Thorns, a gambling man, took a stab at the game of pure random luck and managed to collect enough jewelry to grant him a fortune. Fen then pulled again and obtained a shortsword blessed by fire. Taking another gamble, Thorns also received the ability to meditate once in this year to receive an answer to a nagging question of his. After carefully playing with fate, you all moved on as a storm rolled in once night fell. While having a nice chat beside the fire, a satyr named Gloxa Surehoof asked for a place beside your fire to rest and after you obliged, they played you a relaxing song that granted you a long rest without killing eight hours. Sufficiently warmed and rested you parted ways and you continued on towards Ceres. Once there you approached the outer city, Theo evoked the spirit of Santa Claus and gifted the despondent farmers some gold, leaving little treasures outside of their homes. Realizing that they had a brewer’s kit on them without a license, you followed the advice of an old woman to look for Kirkton at the nearby tavern: the Prancing Elk. Inside was the hustle and bustle of a banging bar where the ever-busy tavern owner hooked you up with Kirkton who forged you a brewer’s license while you nagged the bar owner for details on Ceres. After asking him about a potential revolution, he brought you into the back where he mentioned someone named Gobta who was the brains of the operation. With this in mind and the forgery made you made your way into the city but not without catching the curiosity of the guards. You sold the jewelry you found for some gold, and tried to find the mystery of the magical dagger and Fen realized that she was a wanted person within the kingdom of Maiar—the city folk referring to her as “the Fiend of the Forest”. Looking around, you noticed a home without the flag for Ceres (gold border, red background, sunset in middle) and knocked. Your good friend Varlog answered the door and excitedly welcomed you inside where you saw Aired Quinfa was also staying with him. You asked him about the revolution, assuming he was cool with it and he led you to Gobta—who he was fortunately cool with. When you entered you met the easily trusting Gobta who welcomed you in and his older and much more experienced brother Gonzo. Choosing to trust you, they sat beside the fireplace and began to fill you in.
