Khag Darum

Khag Darum is a massive complex of Dwarven fortresses and cities at the southern tip of the known world. It is one of the known "seed" locations of the Dwarven people, where they first emerged and settled in the world. It is unique in being the only continuously-occupied Dwarven seed location.   The influence of Khag Darum extends far; at it's height, it rivaled the glory of Val Farum at its height. However, the remoteness of Khag Darum prevented it from ever achieving the political power wielded by the kings of Val Farum. The residents are largely unphased by this, and are generally happy to be left alone by the outside world. The Darumians have reputations for hospitality towards strangers, though, probably driven by their thirst for news of the outside world. Even traveling vagabonds are known to be received oppulently at Khag Darum (see Darumian Cuisine), making it a favored port for sailors.   Khag Darum first entered the world stage during the closing centuries of the Age of Gods. As the Sirian Watch hunted the remaining Óvættrs during the First Crossroads War, the Master and Mistress sought to turn the southern continent into a stronghold. Many of the weaker vassal states of Khag Darum fell under their influence. Khag Darum itself had to withdraw, barely able to protect its own borders and crucial aquaculture infrastructure. The decades long siege by their bretheren was lifted when a the full military might of the Sirian Watch joined the beleaguered forces of Khag Darum. The ensuing battle was one of the bloodiest in the history of the world, but, after days of constant fighting, the Sirian Watch managed to capture the Master in the Orb of the Sun. The Mistress escaped, although she would be captured just a few months later by a band of heros in the city of Boloxol.   During the Listless Ages, Khag Darum became most famous for its shipwrights. Even before the widespread adpotions of artifice and engineering, clever dwarven craftsmen had been perfecting the use of metals for ship hulls, taking advantage of their local Magnautilus populations. By the Age of Ascendants, the prevalence of air travel had broken a lot of the isolation of the Darumian dwarves. They often found jobs as airshipwrights, engineers, and mechanics. Khag Darum itself remained an important port city, although, in recent years, the prevalence of magnautilus farming in other areas has left the Darumians scrambling to maintain their economic viability.
