Karrlakton
Karrlakton, simply meaning The People's Town, sits a 30 minute horse ride north of the Cyre river and is the fifth largest settlement in Karrnath. It is ruled by the leader of Clan Kilpsein who, as with all Karr clans, was chosen by a seemingly sentient relic, this one being a shield originally wielded by one of the Great Founders. The current wielder of the Kilpsein shield is a young man named Alrik Æsbjorn, barely sixteen years of age.
When the Karrs arrived in mainland Khorvaire, Karrlakton was chosen as a place to settle for its reasonably better weather, defensible position atop a hill and its proximity to the river. It's long been the accusation of the other great clans that by positioning itself on the other side of The Nightwood to their cities, Clan Kilpsein has not seen enough battle and has grown soft, though these accusations ignore the many fights they've had with the gnolls and other inhabitants of said forest.
Whether deserved or not, the accusations led to steps being taken to rectify the growing reputation of passiveness by Bothild Eingruut hundreds of years ago. Nearby Loom Keep was built and frequent raids were launched up and down the river upon Cyrean villages and towns in an attempt to reclaim some honour and fame. Bothild's Bellow, a great horn which has prominence in the cities skyline was built at the same time and it was said she would blow it whenever she grew bored and wished for her men to set out on another raid.
Soon, Clan Kilpsein grew for themselves a bloodthirsty reputation and even after the nations were unified under Helleya, they still raided with reasonable frequency just to remind people they could. Many people pointed to this reputation later as reason why The Lightning Rail should not include the city upon its route.
The city now is feeling both the effects of being passed over by the Lightning Rail and the Mourning robbing it of its common raiding victims. Many of the town's warriors left to fight in The Last War and decided there was not much to come home to, deciding instead to stay upon the front line or seek fame and fortune elsewhere. Now the city and clan look inwards, trying to find for themselves a new identity to forge but, as people continue to leave, it is very much a case of minimising damage for now.
