Karrnath
Derided by the other human nations as simple folk, the Karr wear the tag proudly and did much in the Last War to make sure they’ll never be underestimated again. Hardy and strong lumberers and warriors, they have never cared too much for magic, politics or the gods, always holding trust more in the arm that wings their sword or axe. Originally hailing from Icewhite Island, the Karr do hold fear of the Asterian Pantheon but do not worship and revere them as the other human nations do. Instead their faith, if it can be called that is in something they call Hiilgus; a karmic force of honour and glory which one accrues over their many lives until they earn their rest in Tähesuul, a name which translates roughly to Victor's Breath.
Karrnath doesn’t have a monarchy or anything quite as rooted in privilege as that. Their leaders have earnt their way to the position, proving themselves more capable and worthy enough to be chosen by one of The Founder's Relics; ancient vestments and weapons worn and wielded by the Karr’s ancestors who first settled Karrnath after fleeing Icewhite Island.
These ancestors are known not by name but by title and deeds. Each new great figure who is chosen by one of these items is expected not only to lead the Karrnath through any great times of difficulty but to build upon their title’s legacy.
