Demons Of The Burning Night: Part Two

General Summary

After Sylke's discovery of the true nature of the curious obsidian monolith, the companions settle for the evening in the rude hut allocated to them. Deciding to share the night watch with their hosts, Cran, Ugnan and Cherry attempt to find out more about Aroth's stranded crew and the island. A number of the the freebooter's men are willing to talk but it is clear that they are totally loyal to their captain and that he is desperate to get his men off Aranmor any way he can.   In the morning, Cran informs Aroth that they are heading northwestwards to the ruined temple complex that lies a few hours distance away. A dark and cruel people, they and their Queen (V'rama Vair) were destroyed in The Last Battle towards the end of the Second Era. Their dark gods and the Nureti affinity with demons made them a very dangerous people and it took a mighty host of Loremasters and Amarrishi (winged angel-like beings) to defeat them. Tarek Nev is indeed warded by a demonic gate and wall as Aroth T'Kal indicated but their may be a password if you can trust the captain, "Teroglustrod".   Taking Aroth's advice, the companions skirt the open moss-covered fields which are apparently home to lethal beings called "Children Of The Moss". Following a large stream that rushed down to feed into the river that leads eventually to Tarek Nev, the soon come to a tumble of sandstone walls that surround a low ziggurat. A small group of Garks have taken up residence among the ruins and refuse to be cowed and driven away. Hooting and snarling, they angrily attack …
