HTR Unit STATESMAN

Written by: Null Kit

Dragoon Tactical Investments Ltd.'s attitude towards security has always been slightly more decentralised than what we've grown to expect from private secuirity providers, preferring to keep train all its employees in HTR tactics and keep an armory inside the protected building, relying on indirect methods of slowing intruders down while corpsec fall back to suit up in full-body armor and grab a carbine. Ultimately however, even with Gabriel Hampton's patented training techniques there's only so much you can do to prepare rentacops with limited experience and training to take on heavily armed and chromed-up mercenaries.   STATESMEN (all-caps mandatory, apparently) was the first HTR unit formed by Dragoon, staffed entirely by hardened vets and, in juxtaposition to the corp's frugal reputation, given a budget that amounted to a slip of paper with the word 'yes' written on it. Despite their recent formation, the unit have already been involved in multiple high-profile incidents, and have taken in at least two shadowrunning teams. Don't let the fact that their helmet's comm-antennae has been done up like a feather lull you into thinking they're any less of a threat than more established corpsec HTR units, omae.

Composition

Manpower

STATESMAN is currently Nineteen men strong, consisting of two fireteams of two four-man squads each.

Equipment

Standard HTR attire for STATESMAN operatives uses the Behemoth Strategic United 'Imperator'-Design ballistic-fatigues as a base layer, with custom-made ballistic alloy plating inserted in key areas with an Ares Arms 'Combiweave' tactical webbing and in-house made ballistic helmet on top of it all.

Weaponry

Unlike the rank-and-file Dragoons, STATESMAN's equipment eschews the company's preference towards weaponry being made in-house by giving its operatives effectively free reign to procure from any source they see fit.
In theory, at least. In practice, everyone picks the same guns as each other for ammo compatability and ease of planning, save for specialist positions needing their own unique gear.

Most arms and equipment have been sourced from Osberger Law-Enforcement Systems and Ares Arms, who despite the 'friendly competition' between Dragoon, seem more than happy to supply them with the tools of the trade.. Currently, the Ares Alpha CQBS is the standard primary weapon across the unit, with a Savalette Guardian as primary sidearm.

Vehicles

STATESMAN operatives currently share the same pool of motor-vehicles as the rest of the Dragoon forces, using Ares Roadmaster armored-transports as a primary transport and a modified Hughes Stallion WK-4 helicopter for aerial insertion.

Structure

STATESMAN operates with a standard military command-structure: Each four-person fireteam is led by a team-leader, who takes orders from a squad-leader overlooking two fireteams, who in turn recieve orders from a unit-commander.

History

As Raleigh's shadowrunning scene found itself pushed into the limelight after the recent bombing at the Universal Omnitech School of Medicine, everyone started looking towards the security corps to step up hteir proverbial game in dealing with the omnipresent threat of criminal mercenaries. In march 2079, CEO Eva Weston made a public statement declaring Dragoon's intention of stepping up to meet the threat of Shadowrunners, and declaring the formation of a 'maximum-threat defence unit' of veteran Dragoon who would be given the training and equipment sufficient to tackle any issue above the paygrade of a rent-a-cop.
Can't deny that whole speech was pretty inspiring, if she wasn't directly calling for my head on a pike.

Eh, we can't really take that stuff personally. I mean we do nice things occasionally, but for the most part we do kill people for money.

Weston made it seem like a paradigm-shift in security, but in the end she was just following orthodox set by bigger and older names in private security: Take the best and most experienced personel, give them more intense training and a higher equipment budget and have them sit around at major hubs to haul their backsides to high-threat situations. What Dragoon had that most other security providers don't is the high standards of training set by old Gabe himself, focussing almost entirely on urban warfare and room-to-room combat and maneuvering. What the public didn't know was that Dragoon's first HTR unit had already been founded and active a month beforehand, under the codename 'STATESMAN' which would stick as their official unit-name.   The unit had their first big break in June, when a botched infiltration into a Kurabokko warehouse by a rookie shadowrunning team turned into a panicked shoot-out when an alarm was tripped. STATESMEN made their appearance on the scene in a shiny blue Roadmaster and practically sprinted into the warehouse, machinegun-toting drone be damned. A few minutes later, they strutted out with one shadowrunner dead, three incapacitated and one unaccounted for, with no casualties on their end.

Having justified their investment in the public eye, the STATESMEN project was expanded into a full HTR unit of multiple teams, and multiple businesses around the Raleigh area have already signed up to renewable contracts for priority HTR support, in case a shadowrunner comes a-knocking.
