Osberger ARA-1 Assault-Cannon
Written by: Ripshot
I can already tell what you're thinking. An assault-cannon, for police use? Don't get me wrong, omae, they'd probably love to use one on jaywalkers all the same, but this actually has some legitimacy: Osberger tasked his beloved bureau to give customers a short-ranged, high penetration rifle for engaging perps with heavy cyberware and/or body-armor, an anti-streetsam rifle, in other words. Osberger decided to give it the old college try and came up with the Osberger Armor-Response-Armament-1, an affordble but oh-so lovely assault-cannon for when the cops are just done with your shit. The ARA-1's pretty simple as far as assault cannons go: It's a single-shot, straight pull bolt-action rifle made from Osberger's cost-effective alloys with a deployable bipod and fixed iron sights. The most luxury you get with this gal is an extractor for your casing, but you don't really need anything else to get your money's worth. It's not meant to be shot over long distances like other cannons are - it's ideal setup is set up out the back of a van and manned by a two-person team, one to spot and one to reload - but what you get in return for simplicity like this is a gun that'll punch through even the most chromed-up razorboy and still have enough velocity to paste the guy behind him.Emphasis on punching through razorboys. This thing's built for penetration over tissue-damage, so the extra pressure in its cartridges doesn't give it any significant wounding capabilities over other assault cannons. As you'd expect, this ain't gonna be legal for folk like you and me to own for a while, but don't let that get ya down: Manufacturing schema's already been leaked, and as it turns out the barrel was outsourced by a manufacturing corpo that repurposed it from an equally hilariously big gun that's technically legal for you to own. Give it some time and a lot of NuYen, and you too might be able to ventilate an engine-block in a single shot!
Funilly enough, we know it's only a matter of time before this reaches some degree of quasi-legality because Amarok of all corps got a license to make some aftermarket hardware for it, mostly ergonomic kits and specialty munitions to turn it into the ultimate answer for the nastiest critters the sixth world can throw. Can't wait to see this on a redneck's gunrack...
