Amarok Pro-Hunting

Written by: Ursa-Minor

An old saying goes: Necessity is the mother of invention. Innovation follows in the wake of changing circumstances that render current means of survival insufficient, and for the indigenous people that inhabit the far north of the Americas, innovation was needed in the wake of new and dangerous creatures entering the ecosystem, following the Awakening in 2012, and Amarok pro-hunting claimed to be the answer to their new challenges to survival.   Amarok Pro-Hunting is an Athabaskan Council based manufacturing and retail corporation that specialises in firearms and tools for hunting the new and dangerous fauna (and on occasion flora) of the sixth world, originally an independant body but eventually made a subsidiary of Ares Arms following the accidental deaths of most of the company's leadship. Most of Amarok's firearms are licensed copies and selections from the main product line of Ares Arms, optimised for use in hostile enviroments and often rechambered for larger caliber cartridges.
Their licensed copy of the Ruger Super Warhawk is a thing of beauty, all of its parts are made to higher tolerances than the original and it comes with a .500 conversion-kit and barrel. You gotta be strong as hell if you want to fire the thing without fucking your wrist up, but ain't nobody gonna fire back.
— Ripshot
Amarok have little interest in the shadows, remaining single-mindedly devoted to their business of hunting and survival gear, but have on occasion taken funds from their black-budget to hire 'extralegal specialists' for intentions and agendas that would otherwise be obstructed by legal means, usually in matters relating to their reputation (reclaiming guns from individuals more concerned with hunting metahumans than animals) or on occasion, matters of conservation and ensuring a continued need for their product. Reliable employers, but not expect to be paid in weaponry, shadowrunner.

Structure

Amarok Pro-Hunting follows a typical corporate structure and hierarchy, with a board of twenty directors presiding over the whole company.

Public Agenda

Amarok Pro-Hunting focusses primarily in producing and selling firearms and utility knives/hatchets for survival and large-game hunting, while also offering a selection of general camping and survival gear.

Assets

Currently, the corporation is a multi-national entity with multiple manufacturing facilities, warehouses and retail outlets across the Athabaskan Council territories, the CAS and UCAS. The corporation's presence in Raleigh consists of the Amarok Pro-Hunting Monolith, a former multi-tier shopping center converted into a self-sufficient production and retail facility. As a subsidiary of Ares, Amarok Pro-Hunting's security is provided by Knight Errant, and it can be assumed the company has access to any resource available to Ares.

History

Amarok Pro-Hunting began in 2045 as a simple gun-shop in the Anchorage, formerly Alaska, owned by Delas Jones, a local firearms enthusiast and gunsmith who bought the then failing gun-shop from its previous owners with a sizeable inheritance from a passing relative (identity currently unknown). Delas made a name for himself in his hometown for his hobby of refurbishing older guns and chambering them in modern cartridges to sell second-hand, a hobby that would become his shop's specialty as preternatural creatures continued to grow in number and ferocity over the years, and instead of refurbishing old guns the shop was hand-making licensed copies of popular guns with modifications for supernatural-game hunting included as standard.
Regular-joes liked Amarok for having guns chambered in cartridges that could reliably kill a paracritter dead but didn't break the bank, while wealthier clientele appreciate the level of craftsmanship they put into their Grand Huntsman line of tailored boomsticks.

Amarok quickly became a big name in hunting goods across the Athabaskan Council territories, and in 2066 the corporation opened its first operation outside the borders in Raleigh NC, purchasing the long-defunct monolithic HeyZeuss shopping-supercenter and converting it over several years into a self-contained manufacturing and distributing facility for the entirety of the northeast CAS. Attaining a AA classification was unlikely, but not entirely off the table for the company as strong sales solidified its multinational status.   In 2075, Amarok's fortune would take a tragic change for the worse in the midst of plans to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, when a biohazard containment-failure in the company headquaters' R&D division led to an outbreak of a highly communicable and lethal pathogen being released, fatally infecting dozens of staff members and killing all but two members of the board of twenty directors, Delas Jones among the victims.
Foul-play was involved, but not in the way you'd think. A shadowrunning team was dispatched to procure a frozen pre Awakening specimen of something that Amarok had covertly broken many international laws and contracts in acquiring, to take back to a third party so they could do exactly the same. The shadowrunners in question neglected to keep the specimen in proper temperatures and it partially thawed out, along with an old and very mean virus. Amarok couldn't publically retaliate since doing so would mean confessing to illegally procuring and harboring the specimen.

With its leadership literally decimated and investors leaving en-masse, the company's days looked to be conclusively numbered. What remained of the board of directors decided it was time to cut their losses, and a contract of acquisition was signed with Ares Macrotechnology, handing over the company's name and properties in exchange for the continued existence of Amarok.   For most people in the company, life continued on as normal. Amarok Pro-Hunting continued business as normal, and Ares' showed a surprisingly light-touch in selling their own brand within the company, primarily by moving product lines and custom gunsmithing to focus almost exclusively on designs based on Ares firearms, tastefully hidden under the understated engravings and hand-carved, metal-reinforced wooden furniture, signature of Amarok's gunsmiths. Locals and friends of Delas Jones in anchorage initially made public shows of disapproval to the company being taken under the Ares brand, but were finally placated in 2079 when the former headquarters of Amarok Pro-Hunting, now sterilized from top to bottom of its killer virus, was re-opened as the Delas Jones memorial hospital.

Can We Keep Him?

Sender: Barkeep
Subject Keywords: Amarok Concrete Forest, Howling Blades
Recipients: Shadowrunners = ListingEnabled
Job Type: Theft

A new animal has been spotted in the bowels of the Concrete Forest, a small marsupial with finely tuned senses, able to detect and escape many of its natural (and unnatural) predators with ease... or kill them in minutes with a strong paralytic venom coating the inside of its mouth. Mr. Johnson is on the lookout for assistance in acquiring a population of these critters for its small-game reserves, and has discovered a nest to procure for such a purpose. Problem being that said nest is in the hands of the Howling Blades, who intend to coat their signature weapons in the creature's venom. Locate the nest and collect the specimens by any means necesarry, and payment is guaranteed.

Job Type: Theft

Sitting in the secure-storage area of a Kurabokko-owned warehouse are the carefully stored trunks of several 'Blood-Blossom' trees, a unique form of awakened flora found only in spots of wilderness where great bloodshed has occured in the past. The wood is unnaturally strong, beautiful to look at... and highly illegal to poach, owing to the rarity of such groves. Mr. Johnson, on Amarok's behalf, claims that taking these away from the Aztechnology-owned subsidiary that clandestinely harvested them would be an act of 'poetic justice', even if that recovered wood ends up furnishing a limited-edition line of rifles. Waste not want not, chummer.

Law of the Jungle

Sender: Ouzo
Subject Keywords: Amarok
Recipients: Shadowrunners = ListingEnabled
Job Type: Wetwork

In one of the hunting reservations Amarok maintains, a new and terrible hunt has begun: Unknown operatives, clad in thermo/optic camo and carrying cutting-edge hardware, have occupied the area and began quietly picking off anyone who approaches the reserve, be they a visiting hunter or one of Amarok's staff, and ever so slowly eroding the corp's work in building and maintaining a stable ecosystem of exotic critters. Mr. Johnson is very adamant that not only are these interlopers to be stopped, but that their employers are discovered and made to pay for the death and discord they have caused. Mr Johnson recommends packing a scope or five, as reports show these operatives to be top-tier marksmen.
