History of Shandria

The Severing was a cataclysmic event that took place during the year 3141, now known as The Year of The Severing. It was a massive earthquake of unknown origin that ripped the continent of Shandria apart into two perfectly equal pieces. No one knows what caused the earthquake, but due to the strange effect it had on the ocean as well as the fact and the split down the middle of the continent seemed to be perfect, some academics theorize it was caused by unnatural forces at work. Regardless, it changed the world forever. The grand city of Zephyria was plunged down into the abyss along with its millions of citizens, and the ocean that came in flooding in the space in between the two new continents is like nothing ever recorded in history. Many of the ships trying to cross the sea disappear mysteriously, with the ships and their crew never being seen or heard from again. The sky ships of Ocacia are able to traverse it with less risk but even they vanish from time to time.
