Al-Jaran
The city of Al-Jahan lies to the south-west of the Canyon of Aran, ruled by the just Emir Mehmet Al Jahbir. Nestled next to a vast oasis, its fields yield bountiful crops, and its walls are ever-expanding to shelter the growing farms. At night, the gates are closed to keep out the terrors of the darkness, and all who enter are scrutinized for corruption and illegal substances. Though largely self-sufficient, Al-Jahan imports metals from Ghazri-Baram to the east and exotic goods such as spices and perfume from the southern trade route to Seth. Corruption is not tolerated in Al-Jahan, and those found guilty are swiftly punished, ranging from fines to the loss of limbs or even public execution.
The city is home to a diverse population, with humans making up around 80% and dwarves comprising about 10%. Despite being a "worker's town," wealth is relatively evenly distributed, allowing even the poorest citizens to live decently. The Emir is well-respected by the workers, though not as much by the other nobles. He is aided by five Zhani, who serve as his extended eyes and ears in the city and have authority over the City Guard and the Rider of Al-Jahan.
The inner city is protected by a 15-foot wall, guarded day and night by the City Guard. An outer wall is being constructed in stages around the outer part of the city to meet the demands of the farmers. Until it is completed, temporary palisades have been set up.
The City was sieges by Haibam Al-Khumran during the Return of the Five Kings in 977.
