Shard's personality test
The testing of shards' personality is a poor imitation of the Granter's ability to read the shards nature. In theory, with enough shards, it might be possible to copy the reading of shards' mood too. It should be possible to make better versions of the current testers, but there is no need to try.
The testing spell can be conjured on any object, but of course, it's only useful in those that has a way to show you the information they gather. Smartphones and speakers are the granter's favorite option for those scenarios.
Equiped with those tools, a biologist or cartographer is able to analyze a specific shard, or a group of them, without waiting to see what kind of ghosts they create with several different triggers. This way they are not only more productive, they also face less risks as they do their job. Before this kind of testing, some cartographers would need to test the effects of different stimuli in an area; some would die or get hurt several days in a row before giving a report and suggesting that the access to that place was restricted or forbidden.
Manufacturing
The Granter is the only one with the ability to create these tools, and only by using a very rare sort of shards, which origin hasn't been determined.
Some biologist think that they might come from a granter who became unable to affect the shards. Others think that whenever a granter dies, there are shards that could be used to imitate all not only the ability to recognize and understand shards, but also to control them.
Once he has acquired enough shards for the core, the granter might use some protective shards and his own will to trigger the creation of a sort of magic that can understand other shards, what they want and what they would do to get it, if they represent a danger or under wich circumnstances they would be prone to help.
Access & Availability
Rare, and only to those chosen by the boss.
The shards used to create testers are extremely rare, maybe only the few resulting from a single loss, which means that only a very limited number of testers can be conjured.
