The City's terminal

Home to the portal station, postal services and other means of communication, this building is located in the Southwest of the City of the lost, in the swamp but right next to the deeper area of the river.

Purpose / Function

This facilities hold most of the transport and messaging means connecting the City and the rest of our world. That includes the portal, train station, docks, some messenger animals, cable messaging system, and the postal office.

Alterations

It was originally build as an aviary for the little messenger creatures they kept when the City wasn't expected to become that. As the settlement grew and other communication means were used, the building just adapted with little intervention of the managers.
A boat was tied next near the building because they had brought some boxes that should be delivered later? They found it in a proper dock the next morning. A guy brought a lot of fruit from the village? Just put it on the refrigerator, there is one now.
But when the granter visited the place to build the portal, he designed a room for it, and it looks a lot like the one we have in the building. The shards didn't interfere with that.

Architecture

Oh, is beautiful. everything is connected by wide passages, there are some corners here and then but there is always a lot of space in every direction... unless there is a lot of packages arriving at the same time, that has happened. Either way the walls are high and the windows are round and enormous, and that's where the walls themselves aren't completely clear.

Defenses

There are some barriers protecting boats in the dock, and a community of carnivorous plants that eat the most dangerous of the creatures that still frequent this zone of the river.
The walls were built by the managers of the terminal, but reinforced by the shards overnight. Nobody knows if the vegetal guardians are here for the free food or because the shards sensed the fear of the sailors.

Staff

The building is managed by a group of four people, who take care of the maintenance with a little help of the building itself. In regular times, they carry alone the tasks of receiving messengers and organizing packages; in busy days, they recruit some neighbors to help.
Sometimes, one or two teenagers from the City work delivering mail, usually as punishment for breaking the law or because their parents consider it a good way to get used to responsibilities.
One of the managers is an authorized operator of the Portal, a job he shares with another two people. The others share the responsibility of receiving the packages and letters that arrive by other means.
