Ironwood

Nestled at the base of the Southern Atlean hills on the continent of Orwynn lies the Ironwood, a place of incredible beauty and eminent danger. A place where mortal men dare not tread for fear of their lives.
During the Skyfall, a number of meteorites fell from the heavens and landed in these woods. The forest had long been a magical place due to the intersection of a number of ley lines. After the meteorites crashed into the woods, over decades of time, the local flora and fauna began to absorb the properties of the metals within these meteorites. Thus the Ironwood was born.   The Ironwood is a place of shimmering beauty, filled with immense trees of Oak, Pine, Maple, and Elm with veins of silver, copper, or gold. All that lives within these woods is touched with the meteorite metals. But within the metallic gleam of beauty, this is a place fraught with peril as creatures both mundane and magical have evolved abilities based on the sky metals that permeate these woods.   It is said that an ancient and powerful creature lives at the heart of these woods and serves as their caretaker and commands a retinue of magical guardians that protect this enchanted place. These guardians are said to not take kindly to unwelcome intrusions into their domain.

Fauna & Flora

Ironwood is much like any old forest that is rich in magic. The key difference of course is the mutation of these woods that incorporated the metals from Skyfall into the local flora and fauna. A traveler through this forest would certainly see Oak, Elm, Maple, Pine, and Birch trees though in the Ironwood, the trunks and leaves may have veins of metal throughout them and in some rare cases may even appear to be made entirely of metal. Some of the local birds, such as the Mirthril Hawk, have developed adaptations that include claws and beak coated in true mithril. The Silverfang is a large predator cat that’s very fur is imbued with a variety of metals giving it a natural coat of armor. While it is fairly well known that the local flora and fauna have evolved a variety of adaptations to their metallic environment, it has been poorly documented due to a lack of researchers surviving their expeditions into these woods. It should be noted that the water in the Ironwood is not safe for most creatures (man or beast) not native to this forest due to the high concentration of metals. Brave adventurers should always remember to bring plenty of clean drinking water should they plan on staying for any length of time in the Ironwood.

Natural Resources

Wood collected from this forest is magical in nature and can be used for a variety of enchanting purposes and other arcane effects. It is also widely prized as material for crafting of a number of tools, weapons, and structures.
