Human Resources
Run by Lynda (who will know if you say her name with an ‘i’). Lynda is feared and respected and by all, though few have ever ventured that far into city hall to see her. It is rumoured that sometimes those who do, do not come back from the encounter. Lynda is a busy person (is she a person? No one is certain, but Lynda is eternal and revered. Remember this.) and thus delegates some of the less important matters to specially chosen individuals to serve in her absence. It is recommended that if you have a complaint about life in Sanctuary that you write your complaint down and drop it into the feedback box. Yes, that one over there, covered in dust and cobwebs and fungal growth, which looks like it’s never been touched.
Human Resources are silent, yet incredibly deadly. 9 until 5, 5 days a week, occasional overtime on the weekends, Human Resources is the average person's nightmare fuel - or perhaps a respite to the gruelling shifts of other departments. Their offices are placed within floors 2 and 3 of City Hall, banished to the left hand side of the building, and each desk is boxed in. Everyone has their cubicle, everyone has their space, and *everyone* has their own mug. No exceptions. Mugless people are immediately gifted one or passed down a spare. Those found using someone else's mug will be ostracised, slowly weeded out of inner circles until their lunch breaks are spent alone and unloved, usually feeling eyes boring into the backs of their skulls. Lynda, the matriarch of the surprisingly small department, oversees all. She knows everything, everyone, and is privy to all that goes on within City Hall. Some might say that she even has her spies hiding in the walls…
Lynda also has her favourites and by a country mile that would be dearest Anwar, who has been stationed to the Welcome Centre. In a way it is his miniature realm, with those other HR members assigned there mere guests underneath him.
Human Resources encompasses and broaches many different departments and aspects of Sanctuary life. They offer support and guidance, accepting residence permits from the Chronicles and assigning housing; they work with Agriculture on dietary requirements and improvements; for Entertainment and Communications they act as representatives and enforcers of regulations set by the Overseers. And, most importantly, they handle complaints. Lots and lots of complaints. Or they claim to handle, considering the feedback box has never been opened. Human Resources have a representative at every event, gathering, and crowd, making sure that, from a managerial standpoint, everything is covered. Paperwork is essential to the running of Sanctuary, and HR are there to dot the i’s and cross the t’s expertly under Lynda's watchful gaze.
Aside from Chronicles, HR is perhaps the rarest department to be placed into. Only the warmest and kindest are placed within their ranks - and, of course, incredibly mentally resilient.
