Malaster
Malaster, named for the noble Malaster family is located in Malaster Province in northern Renvere and is the regions seat of power. It is a small port city, but an essential stratigic point for Renvere's naval defense. Thus the city gets a sizable stipend from the crown from the other, wealthier pronvices to help maintain the fleet. The current head of the Malaster family is young Baron Mors Malaster. He governs the area in part with the use of the Knights of Malaster who each hold small villages in the region.
The city itself is old, and perhaps one of the few remaining structures still intact from before the war. The shanty town that huddles beneath the outer wall of Malaster, however, is not old at all. It has been an ever growing expanse of tent slums and wagons turned into homes. Inside this maze is the Shady Market, one of the most expansive black markets in the region. Baron Malaster has ordered the knights to allow this underworld to grow, as it has attracted more legitimate trade as well. Beyond the outer wall is the bulk of the city. Three great gates on the walls of Malaster show the way of the three major roads that trisect the city. Here are where most of the people of Malaster is, and where you can find tradesmen and their workshops and a farmers market where the local farms bring all the food into the city. The eastern side terminates in the main harbor, the more run down part of the interior city, call The Bite. This area is largely acknowledged to be under Telamon influence. This is also where you can find the Malaster Library, one of the few places of knowledge in the nation, albeit neglected by the people of Malaster.
The central wall opens up to the beautiful Hollard's Square, named for a former ruler of Malaster. The large white stone square contains several statues and fountains and is a gathering space for events in the city. From there you can travel to the millitary ward, which houses much of the city guard and the sailors of the Malaster naval fleet. This is also where you can find the Knightskeep, the fort that serves as both the place of power for Tamar Greengate, but also the headquarters of the Knight's of Malaster. The Knightskeep also serves as a dungeon for the cutpurses and rogues too foolish to work under the veil of Telamon friendship. You may also venture over to the newly remodeled New Light Chapel, that has been refitted from an old pagan ruin, into the first true Celestine cathedral in Renvere. To go any deeper into the city, you will find no open gates, for beyond the inner wall is Hawksroost Castle, the expansive fortified grounds of the Malaster family.
Additionally there are three hamlets, each given to one of the Knights of Malaster to govern. Jack's Grove is a small lumbering village while Hawkham is where many of the farmhands have congregated. Finally there is Bongarden, a small village almost exclusively of shipwrights on a small nearby island.
