Gnome

A race of curious engineers that love to tinker with technology. Their names often sound cute but they firmly believe them to be powerful
Gnomes have a vast vocabulary that can define many things down into many different subcategories. Many scholars will slip into gnomish because of its scientific depth to help them explain complex things in a shorter amount of time. Some call it the language of scholars.
They are generally 2-4 feet tall and have many different types of hair colors. Mostly their skin ranges from pale peach to dark walnut. They have cute names and speak with a somewhat higher pitch to their voice. Gnomes have a long lifespan generally in the 300 range, especially if they find a city or cave to live in. The gnomes lost their homeland at one point in somewhat recent history and have a hard time calling anywhere their home. They live as wandering merchants and traveling scholars, or they live in a city with a college or learning institution and will never leave the city again. They prefer somewhere near a forest or a deep cave system.
Gnomes are said to have been born from the fey wilds and some still live deep within the fey realm. But when a gnome makes their way out of the fey wilds they begin to shift into a new personality to fit into where they live. Mostly they are broken down into three categories. The rock, forest, and deep gnomes. The most common is the rock gnome, they are tinkerers and hobbyists. Gnomes live their lives to have fun. They usually have tan skin no matter if they live underground or not. They hate monotonous work and prefer to make some machine to do any task for them. they are willing to spend 4x as much time creating some machine to do the job if it means they can use their mind rather than their hands. Gnomes love animals and will often keep them as pets. A gnome will always work around an animal and will never dig or build through a nest or home of a creature if they are aware of it. Most creatures would have no idea that they are walking into a gnome community. They live to build into the landscape or into trees and rocks. City gnomes like buildings that are tall and will choose a tower over a street level storefront.
There are a race of Gnomes known as the Deep Gnomes. they are almost the opposite of common gnomes and are said to be evil gnomes. They have dark tough skin and are often hairless. They mine constantly with little creativity or culture. Many other creatures charm them and use them as labor slaves.
