Path of the Dead
Floating above Shek is one of the heads of VOZO. Souls are drawn here upon death and the surface of this moon is the realm of the dead, Helheim. The head itself isn't visible by day or night however, those that use ash magic know exactly where it resides, but also cannot see it. Mage prophets believe it exists in another plane and refer to it as the realm of the dead. The prophecy states that when Shek is destined for the end times the realm of hel with crash into the realm of the living creating a hell on Shek itself
It is a tradition to give a recently deceased a candle or a lantern to take with them into the beyond. The surface of Helheim is a frozen wasteland. the souls of the dead travel looking for the path to the everlasting and the peaceful beyond, although many never find it. The dead will often have the candles and lights given to them upon their death to travel into the beyond. There are small lights that flicker on the outside of this demon head looking for peace.
As the dead travel inward they enter the first plane of the dead, the Shadowfell. The Shadowfell exists within the material plane as well like that of the astral or the ethereal. The path of the dead does not exist near the planet itself however but could be reached by someone well versed with the knowledge of the path and the shadowfell. some of the dead stray from the path in these ever shifting lands of shadow and make it to the prime material wordls. Necromancers like to use this realm to draw their magic from.
After passing from the Shadowfell the path winds through the Nine Hells, the home of Devils. The path has many devils that try to get the dead to move from the path. the Devils have strict rules on interaction and cannot physically intact with the dead themselves. Each level of these hells is unique and awful.
If the dead stay on the path with sheer determination and guile they will make their way into the Abyss and its infinite layers of chaos. It could be said that this is the end of the line for the dead. The path is hard to follow and often hidden or destroyed.
