Utagawa Seiji

The Reaper of Tokai, Master Assassin of Shinano

Patriarch of the Utagawa clan. Notoriously reclusive, he is one of the most feared men in all Shinano for his skills with the naginata and ninjato. Though he primarily has a reputation as a ruthless killer and infamous assassin, Seiji nevertheless is greatly respected, and his advice is often sought by the Celestial Court of Shinano when it mediates conflict among the other clans.
He and his brothers founded the Utagawa clan in its current form, though the family has been around for centuries. While many whisper tales of his vast criminal empire, and gossip of his flagrant and malicious deeds runs rampant, few have ever accused him of anything concrete publicly. He is not known for suffering his enemies to live, but what might be worse than his own vengeance is that of the many great and powerful lords whom he seems to have complete sway over. Whether he is blackmailing, bribing, or threatening them is unknown, but regardless of the reasons his power and influence stretches to all four islands of Shinano, into every city and castle, every bay and mountain.
He has three acknowledged children, Utagawa Rōn, Utagawa Kajiro, and Utagawa Aiko. The identity of their mother (or mothers) is unknown, as much of his personal life is shrouded in rumor and secrecy. Few have seen inside the Dragon's Head Manor, and fewer still into the private chambers of the Utagawa patriarch. Those who have keep silent, saying nothing even to those closest to them. Threats of death and torture, bribes of land and wealth, nothing has yet gotten the personal servants of Utagawa Seiji to tell of what they saw in his service. This devotion has only intensified the dark rumors surrounding the family, and the haunted eyes of those who serve them.
