Sitka Cove is a modern, fictional community in the very real province of Ontario. Northern Ontario, in fact. Sitka Cove, and its surroundings, is and will be, the setting for my crime/mystery fiction. I already have a novel (in edits) set here and also plan to write short stories, flash, and eventually serial fiction in Sitka Cove as well, featuring a variety of interesting and complex characters. Population: 7,000 Location: Northern Ontario, 5-hour drive NW of Sault Ste. Marie Mayor & Town Council: Mayor Jeff Jerrod, Deputy Mayor Luce Clark Industry: The economy is based on natural resource extraction, lumber & soon-to-be mining. Some outdoor guides (hunting, fishing), a couple of eco-tour outfits & B&B. The town has an assisted living home. The port in Sitka Cove supports a ferry that offers tours of the Cove for tourists, a small fishing fleet that provides fish to restaurants around the North, including The Pig & Cow, and Mom's Dinner Plate. A small but growing agriculture movement also provides seasonal produce to restaurants and grocers around the North, including The Pig & Cow Diner , and Mom's Dinner Plate restaurants. Also soon to open is a satellite college campus that promises to bring new people, new money, and a more varied economy to town. Please see the settlement page for the town of Sitka Cove to see all the businesses, services, and infrastructure of the town.
