Kakita Jihi is tried for the murder of a plantation owner


Kakita Jihi is tried for the muder of Hida Jubei . He is transferred from the custody of Shiba Ryota, AKA Fox Eyes to the custody of Soshi Bairei. The trial is public and highly attended. He is found guilty of grand theft, for his freeing of Jubei's slaves. His punishment is to have his hand broken with a hammer.   The matter of murder is to be settled by a duel to the death with Soshi Bairei . Jihi is victorious and Bairei is killed. However, a brawl and shootout occurs immediately after the trial, leading to the events of the Red Street Massacre later that night.
