Confluence Hall

Purpose / Function

Once a place where the great leaders of the Sky Kingdoms met, Confluence Hall was a place of assembly, council, discussion, and decision-making. A once-hallowed building, Confluence Hall served as a place where leaders could meet under the safety of a truce - a place of peace. It was also a place of council - indeed, before the Cities were founded and the Archives established, Confluence Hall sat atop a great labyrinth of a library, where scribes and scriveners would fetch historical records, written legends, scientific works, political pamphlets, and other papers of the time to help in the leaders' various discussions. It was a place of both knowledge and of council.

Architecture

Few people ever saw the inside of Confluence Hall - but many caught glimpses and views of it over the course of their lives. It was described as "an enormous building - even by the standards of the dragons - with a wide wall of real stone surrounding, and the rich, sturdy bark of the ebony trees and marble white ash." The narrator goes on to describe that "there were four wings - one for each of the kingdoms and a smaller one for the Crysphics, converging into the great domed hall where I presume the meetings occurred." Indeed, "there was the smell of new pine and fresh fruit in the air, and as the wind shifted I could smell old paper, too." If one were to look inside, they would see large, grand hallways with intricately carved walls, beautifully colored tapestries, and chandeliers of dragon antlers with candles glowing brightly. It was, indeed, a sight to behold.

History

Confluence Hall was a place where many important historical events have their roots. Famous quotes were spoken, treaties, articles, and proclamations drafted and finalized, wars ended and begun, alliances made and finished, aid given, advice withheld. But, above all else, it was a place respected and revered as a peaceful one.    Until the Ashes War, when a group of rebels swooped in and burned it down. Even the magical defenses could not fully protect it. The building was left a hollow shell - it was a place held so highly in the minds of the people that it is even taught about in the present day. Though there were plans for reconstruction, a violent storm swept through the sky, sending the unanchored cloud to the Outer Realm, where it remained lost for a century and a half.   About fifty years from the present day, was finally found by a group of Charter Scouts, carefully brought to the Intercity Cartography Station, and thoroughly searched. Unfortunately, many of the books in the library labyrinth were lost in the fire, and the rest are written in a strange language - most likely to keep government affairs secret from prying, untrained eyes. Scholars are working to decipher the code, and have made many significant breakthroughs that have helped Skydwellers learn more about their past.
