It shocked everyone when Dawnhaven vanished, seemingly into thin air.
Charters ventured to the former site of the city over and over in an attempt to discover where it went. Aerial experts made maps of recent wind currents to try and track where it might have been blown away. But no one could find it. The only conclusion was that it had disappeared as the result of some spell, perhaps the work of
sprites.
In reality, the city had simply been claimed by the Kinleth tribe, a small nation of
Crysphics that somehow survived the skyshattering, but were isolated enough to be completely separated from the rest of the Skydwellers during the
unification of the sky.Although they nearly died out from starvation, accidental falls, and the many other dangers of the Outer Realm, they managed to scrape by a survival until they discovered the ruins of Dawnhaven.
Crysphics are known to have once wielded great arcane magic, mastering spells that aided them where the lack of dragons made them weak. Now, the tribe preserved just enough of that knowledge to form a powerful protective barrier around the city - so powerful that it made the ruins invisible to all sapient creatures, save for the wyrms that would eventually become the city's bane.
In the meantime, the tribe revitalized the city, regrowing old buildings, reactivating mills, and replenishing the old farms. The city was a place where they could relax for just a moment, and the tribe grew enough to give itself a name - the name of the first Crysphics: Kinleth.
"It has been our haven and our refuge. We would not be alive without it. But in some ways, it is also our prison. Deep in each of our hearts is a fear of the outside. We've seen others. Other humans...and dragons. I don't know much about them, but the stories...I fear that if we reveal ourselves, we will be destroyed, and our nation forgotten."
-Crysphci
be destroyed if discovered, life would definitely get harder for them if their existence became known. No one would kill them, but the relationship between a Crysphic city and the
would quickly get uncomfortable. Old prejudices on both sides would be reawakened, and progress would most likely be undone.
But the Crysphics hide from the Skydwellers well. It's the flora and fauna of the Outer Realm that they need to watch out for. Hostile animals on the prowl, poisonous plants creeping up inside the city's barriers, and, much more recently, vengeful wyrms attacking the city.
In fact, the wyrms are so bend on destroying Dawnhaven (probably as an act of revenge for their defeat in the
) that the city suffers weekly attacks, and the Crysphics have to train from childhood to defend themselves from the beasts. The wyrm's relation to dragons have made the tribe even more wary of the Skydwellers, so they have resolved to stay surviving in Dawnhaven perpetually.
