Sky Cities

The Sky Cities are the grand places where the Skydwellers live. They're fairly close to each other - 30 minutes of average speed flying but 5-10 minutes if the dragon is flying particularly fast. They form a sort of circle around each other. in the middle of the circle, but higher up, are the Haven and Field clouds where the dragons reside - in the center is the portal to the pocket dimension that is the center of the dragon kingdom.
“ Yes!” Stormbreak breathed as they landed on one of the clouds. Fifteen Haven clouds in total lay in front of them, each much larger than a City subdivision. Field clouds to the sides provided fields to train in, to play in, to eat in, to really do anything in. While there were many different Fields, there were only fifteen Haven clouds, three for each race of dragon. There were clouds filled with lakes and ponds for the Amnirclaws, smooth, blackish for the Ignisclaws, and next to them, facing the east, were the cupped clouds for the Dawnclaws, with similar cupped clouds to the west, where the Duskclaws lived. Trees and shrubs littered the clouds where Arborclaws resided, and in the center of them all was what appeared to be a swirling sphere of green, blue, and purple - aurora borealis, only contained in a sphere that was much, much lower than the northern lights would normally be. This was the way into the heart of the dragon kingdom, the place where the Palace resided, and where the royal dragons lived.
The cities themselves are divided into six subdivisions around a small circular field in the center, where the Mayor and Governor Offices reside. Subdivisions are often given names based on the types of trees that grow as the buildings; the Hardwood subdivision or Conifer subdivision are a couple of names that are used.   The Cities and Havens are interdependent. They trade heavily and rely on each other - though they're not except from friendly competition - check out the article on the City of Wonders and stick around for the upcoming article of Wingspin to learn more!   While most people live in the Cities/Havens, a couple of Skydwellers have their own private residence several spans away from the Cities. There will also be private businesses, sports fields, school buildings, forest clouds, etc. in this area.   In order to keep out of sight of planes, the cities reside about a mile further up from plane flight paths. There is truly a whole magnificent world up in the sky full of magic and wonder.
