Lake Blauauge

Idea and Written by Drackzahn
"The sapphire surrounded by the wild green woods is less peaceful than it seems. The water is toxic and full of sulfur due to old vulcanic fissures at the depths of the lake." Professors for geology at the university of Neueisen about the lake Blauauge.

Geography

The lake covers an area of 20x10 km and is surrounded by the magical Blauaugenwald. The water is deep, at the deepest location of over 190m, and unnaturally warm due to a still active network of volcanic fissures that keep the water ice-free even during the coldest winters. The natural blue color is a mixed result of the sulfur that is in the water and the Pink Mist infusion that affected not only the forest but also the waters of the lake itself. The elliptical form is the result of an old volcanic crater.

Ecosystem

The lake has a unique ecosystem of fishes that have adapted to the warm water and the low concentration of sulfur in it. The fishes of the lake remind more of these tropical waters than of a European lake, as they are colorful and there exists a surprisingly high variety of subspecies. Due to the vulcanic sulfur in the water, most of the animals in the water are toxic and only very few predators are able to consume them without side effects. After the Pink Mist infused the lake, the colorfulness of the fishes increased due to the mutations that were caused by the infusion. Many of them developed unique abilities and powers to fight off potential predators, like creating Magical Bubbles or spitting out hypnotic fluids that confuse any attacker.

Ecosystem Cycles

The water stays warm during the whole year due to the vulcanic fissures deep underground. Even in winter, the water stays ice-free and warm, creating a natural refuge for animals to flee from the coldness.
