Ep. 301 2 Chill 2 Home

General Summary

Makgil provides a welcoming refuge for the party and the newly freed werewolf pack. While they lay low from the activities back south in Keryn, the party does some leveling up!

Baelai goes into the historian's archives; looking for anything on deities. Having found plenty of information on the worshiping practices of acolytes from across the continent, he spends his time meditating in a private area in the mountains. Dyorin joins him one morning, and this is when it is discovered Dyorin is horrible at flirting. It is unknown if Baelai and Dyorin are a thing at this point? But survey says it is likely.

Anyway, Dyorin knows a thing or two about gods, and offers Baelai some advice to get the attention of one he is trying to serve. After a long winded and vague metaphor, Dyorin teaches Baelai the Light spell. In return, Baelai teaches Dyorin Sending.

Unsurprisingly, Farryn and Flint also have interest in the books in the Goliath's archives. Flint goes in the direction of studying Cleric spells, and learning how to protect his party members from death. Farryn when the complete opposite direction, finding an infernal book about the Shadow Woman. The book tells her how to summon devilish power to use as her own. Deciding to practice this power on the same mountain pass that Baelai uses for meditation leads to an uncomfortable interaction, but Baelai admits his trust for Farryn and speaks nothing more of it.

Tarbohom learns to be a big beefy boy with the Goliaths; becoming one of the pack. This leads to him wishing to stay behind when the party aims to leave for Ringwe'Eska. How will this collection of mages survive without their muscle? Well Flint has that handled, after Tarbohom gives him some useful fighter hacks. After a solemn but hopeful goodbye, Baelai hands Tarbohom his dulcimer and then the party makes their way back south.

“Chillhome is fed upon the meat of the dead. Underground. Underground. Seek them underground.”

Ringwe'Eska is an unwelcome sight after the long journey from Makgil. Dying embers and smoke add to the grim visage of the dark stone city. The party sneaks through way over the wall and into the city, finding a clear path to the Snowmor Temple. Once being welcomed inside by Carric the Cleric, they are lead to the underground meeting place of the city's refugees; including Ler, Quinn, and Gale. Ler is beyond himself, unable to interact with anyone, but something does change in him as Baelai silently hands over Bress' Charm of Husoris.

After speaking with the survivors, the party suspects Derek the Demilich's involvement in staging a coup against the city's wealthy. A new face controls the city, Dirjil the single merchant of the city, but that does not mean Derek had not seeped evil intent into Dirjil's mind. Food is scarce, people are desperate, and Dirjil led the crowds against the rich and blamed them for all the city's problems.

The party makes the decision to first confront Derek, but not before they feel a strange pull. This almost divine feeling force comes from beneath them, and beckons them to venture through the catacombs and sewers of the temple. A decision is made to return to this feeling after taking care of Derek.

“My minions! Finally!! I may feast.” You look to the top of the stairs where you see it, a great man, standing over 7 feet tall. His feet are ended by great cloven hooves and his head is that of a goat, topped by curving and tremendous horns. His eyes radiate a dark amethyst and a deep violet hue drifts up from them like smokey tar. “Even now, I grow stronger!!”

Derek has a warm welcome prepared for our adventures; as they step through the threshold of the Darkshire Manor, a towering half-goat half-man steps down the master staircase towards them. He is ready to receive that which they had gone to fetch for him, but they are ready to fight. Baelai, looking to his companions, steps forward and releases a blast towards their friend-turned foe.
As the dust settles, they find Derek, unharmed. One leg up and his eyes wide with fear, he is aghast by their behavior.

“I’m a little offended. Can’t you take a joke from an immortal semi-demon being? Geez.”   “I’m not corporeal, this is a projection. Don’t worry.” As he says this, a purple shimmer begins to glide over his shoulders and arms. A jacket comes into being over his dark and smokey body, hugging him snugly. He takes a few excited steps down the stairs. “Do you have that thingy?” He claps his hands together excitedly.

Farryn, frustrated by these events, snatches the tome and marches straight to the artifact room where Derek is certain to be. She opens the door to find not one, not four, but five familiar faces. And a child. The BROs, all geared up in their matching letterman's jackets, smile widely at their guests and welcome them into their new frathouse.
