Ringwe'Eska

Ringwe’Eska is a relatively large settlement exposed in the wide open plain of Fafniran. There is little in the way of natural fortifications aside from the Beleg Kelvar forest, so a large and worn down stone wall surrounds and protects the city from all sides. Approaching from the city from the West and East, travelers pass by the freshly renewed crop fields that provide ample resources to the cityfolk.   Soon to be harvested wheat spills into the worn out road and young cattle graze on grass that refuses to give in to the cold and rocky terrain. The air is frigid and there is a consistent wind blowing at your backs, but the site ahead fills you with warmth.   Light spills out from the gate of the city, which is flanked on either side by guardian towers. The braziers atop these towers are ablaze with a fierce flame, serving as a beacon for travelers coming from all sides of the city. Guards stand tall at the gates; you note the symbol of a fire fountain emblazoned on their armor as they grant you access into the City of Embers.

Demographics

The population consists of all sorts of species and ethnicities, mainly separated by their professions. Farmers and merchants make up for most of the population, the merchants taking up many of the middle class district neighborhoods and the farmers residing in family estates outside of the city walls.

Member 5    The leader of Ringwe'Eska is a lord mayor, appointed by the Elven council of Keryn. Beneath the lord mayor is an elected council that represents the interests of the middle class.   In recent past, Ringwe'Eska's government had been overrun by anarchists and desperate cityfolk, but is currently experiencing a period of peace under the administration of Quinn Putnam and her council of cityfolk; including trusted city noble Ler Stormhand.

Defences

A 30 ft wall surrounds the entirety of the city, and is enforced by a sizable army of soldiers. Its location in the central plains of Fafniran leave it exposed to all different kinds of dangers.

Industry & Trade

The most important part of the economy for Ringwe'Eska is its trading center. It is a gathering place for merchants from all around to sell their wares. After heroes saved the city from werewolf attacks and anarchy, the marketplace is now flourishing. The Merchant's Guild of Ringwe'Eska works closely with the neighboring town, Houndbreach, to increase trade and improve the economy.
While the farming industry is primarily used to sustain the people of the city rather than be exported, the surplus is used to provide resources to neighboring towns and villages.

Infrastructure

The Farmland

Surrounding the city are farms owned by many families of farmers that have been settled there for generations. The plains are mostly rocky and barren, but the city still continues to thrive even when its produce is scarce. Their farms are mostly focused on livestock, due to the terrain, but werewolf attacks of the past drove them to depend on whatever fertile land they could find.

The Orikon District

Home to family estates of the city. Farmers and merchants whose families have lived in the city for generations have their homes in this district. Most notably, the lord mayor's house is at the northern most spot of this district as well as the Darkshire Manor; a manor that had once belonged to a noble family now turned into an adventurer's guild for the Brotherhood.

The Raen District

This district is home to the more recent additions to the city. The buildings are small and slowly growing cramped, and houses more transients than permanent residents, but these people are accepted here like the rest of the population. This district provides a comfortable and affordable home for many of the people living there.
In the center of the district is a community garden that everyone contributes to to help feed the families in the neighborhood.

The Marketplace

The center of the city is home to the marketplace and a fire fountain that was almost always filled with fierce flames. Because of its central location in Fafniran, Ringwe’Eska is a popular place for merchants to come from all around and trade amongst the cityfolk and each other. Businesses have open storefronts and tables protected by leather tarps overhead to show off their wares to passers-by while traveling merchants set up their own tables in the plaza. The growing and varied population of the city is thanks to merchants finding a permanent home here and settling down.   Surrounding the plaza includes buildings such as the Infinite Tavern and a temple dedicated to the Northern Warrior Snowmor.
A few streets branch off from the central marketplace, three of them are main roads that lead out of the city to the West, East, and South.

Guilds and Factions

The Brotherhood

An adventurer's guild built within the abandoned home of the Darkshire family. Adventurers of all kinds, especially those who are hoping to change their questionable pasts or looking for a place to belong, are welcomed here to stay and provide assistance to the city whenever it is requested of them.

The Merchant's Guild

Newly reformed; this guild is slowly returning the city's trade industry to its former glory. It is closely connected to Houndbreach's guild and allows for constant communication between the two settlements.

History

At this city's conception, the frigid northern weather and difficult terrain made it very challenging for people to settle in this location. According to legend, it wasn't until the Warrior Snowmor appeared to the people who prayed to him. As the king of the Northern lands, he took it upon himself to guide his people on the ways of honor, strength, and self-sustainability. He saved them from extinction and continue to govern them even today. The legend of his arrival to and resurrection of the city is memorialized in a fire fountain in the center of the city square.

When the beloved lord mayor of 40 years passed away, the city rejected his successor that had been appointed by the Elven council in Keryn. Quinn Putnam, the new lord mayor, was inexperienced with the city and was unable to help as werewolves and bandits destroyed the land surrounding the city. Resources dwindled and desperate cityfolk drove her from the city.   An anarchist, Dirjil the Merchant, took over the lord mayor's seat and drove the city into ruin. It was revealed, just before he was killed, that he orchestrated the bandit attacks and stole the city's resources for himself and a select few. Quinn was put back into power, with trusted farmers and merchants by her side to ease the city back into a time of peace.

Geography

Surrounding the city is mostly plains and rocky hills, making it difficult to farm crops, but easy to traverse for travelers.
