Thonsian Creation Myth

Summary

Before the world was created, there was nothing except the dark abyss of the celestial oceans and the gods were bored.   One particularly bored god, Thur, desired something interesting to happen and with a heavy sigh, literally breathed a star into existence and named it after himself. Looking upon the now illuminated celestial seas, he saw that they were just as boring in the daylight as they were during the night before, so he did what all of us do at the seaside. He took handfuls of wet sand and sculpted out a world.   Using great fistfuls of sand, he carved out lakes and valleys, molding the remainder into gentle hills and towering mountains. He dug winding rivers and deep caverns, flattened plateaus, and sweeping plains. When he was finished, he took joy in his creation and the other gods politely clapped and murmured about his "unique" topographical choices.   Thur knew they were unimpressed, and like all gods, desired much greater praise than that which was delivered. So, finding the uniform colors of the sand and sea to need a little oomph, he decided to decorate the place. He planted the great forests and every delicate flower with care, choosing all of the colors with great deliberation. He asked the other gods for their input on what to add to the world, and they each contributed their own designs to provide all of the beautiful, functional, and odd things that adorn the planet. At this point, the other gods began to see the value of Thur's creation and started squabbling over some of the nicer bits of territory that they could take charge of.   The language they spoke amongst themselves drifted down onto the world below and to their delight, some of their creations began to speak it without any direction from the gods. These they called Thonsians. The gods reveled to hear the praise and thanksgiving these tiny mortal beings bestowed upon them, and seeking to garner more of it, crafted a secluded paradise just for them, with everything that these beings would ever need to be happy. Depositing these humans in a high mountain valley, they gave them the gifts of fire and agriculture, herds of animals to care for, and the most beautiful scenery. With something to occupy their time with now, the gods were no longer bored and were actually quite proud of themselves. Especially Thur, though he was known for being a bit full of himself, to be honest.   The gods named the world Smen and the valley Thons, after the very language of creation, and set the world to gracefully spin around Thur's star at an optimal distance to receive the perfect amount of heat and light. The Thonsians, who were warned that the world was harsh and unforgiving beyond their utopia, received all of this with gratitude and set to living the honest and fruitful lives that they've lived ever since, never once bothering to set foot beyond their valley.
