Cloud-Gazer Hawk
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Cloud-Gazer Hawk is a small, fat bird with a unique physical design that sets it apart from other avian species in NLK. The birds have a plump body, but males are covered in soft baby blue along with their snow-white feathers, and measure up to 6 inches in length, at full maturity. Its wingspan is relatively small in proportion to its body, much like a finch - but it cannot fly - it only flutters around. Despite being called a hawk, its behaviors are more similar to those of a chicken, except for its method of catching prey.
One notable feature of the Cloud-Gazer Hawk is its hinged-locking beak, which allows it to keep its mouth open for hours at a time, making it easier to capture prey. Its bones are nearly hollow, and its weight pulls it to the ground, making movement less desirable. As a result, the bird is a slow creature that often remains in the same place for hours, only moving a few inches at a time for hours longer. Their slow matabolism and heavy weight often times causes them great pain, which they eventually succumb to in death, from lack of movement.
The females are pure white in color, and only reach a max of 5 inches, while the males are slightly bigger. Both genders have a unique way of reproducing. The males automatically die after ejactulating into the females, as this is where their Jala Essence is stored. This process is one that is avoided until the bird has fully matured at around a year old. The females will dig a hole to bury their 15-30 eggs and leave them before they hatch, risking more than half of their lives due to the weather and other predators. They are not parent-type birds that raise their young, but instead, the young birds will burrow into the ground for shelter until they are old enough to emerge and begin mating. As the females continue to get older, fatter, and lazier, they will often stay above ground until dying around 5 years later. Doing so often subjects them to sexual attacks from younger, male Cloud-Gazer Hawks, who see them as an easy target. Unless the female isable to persuade against the vile act, they males will die, nearly immediatly after.
In addition to their physical attributes, female Cloud-Gazer Hawks have the power of persuasion over other creatures within a telepathic range, allowing them to connect with their victims on a deep level and tempt them with alluring desires. They can also release a horrible smell while they sleep that mimics that of three-day-old blobfish soup vomit, which deters predators and fauna with a sensitive sense of smell, from approaching them.
Overall, the physical design of the Cloud-Gazer Hawk makes it a unique and fascinating species of bird to observe and study, even though its laziness and unique behaviors make it an enigma among avian creatures.
